It is with great sadness and a profound sense of loss we announce the passing of Bryan DeNeve, January 19, 2025, following a 6 month battle with cancer.
He will be deeply missed by his wife, Julie; daughter, Shelby and son, Spencer; as well as his parents, Ruth DeNeve and Dan DeNeve; and his brother Jeff DeNeve; and extended family members and many close friends.
Born in Edmonton and raised on a farm near Leduc, Bryan spent his younger years working on the farm and playing basketball in senior high school for Leduc Composite High. His love of basketball lead him to Red Deer College and Grant MacEwan. He pursued studies at University of Alberta earning his BA in Economics and an MBA in Finance. and later earned an Executive MBA from Harvard School of Business. He worked for the Alberta Government in the Department of Energy and followed his mentor Dr. Bridgeman to EPCOR. He was involved in EPCOR’s creation of Capital Power Corporation, where he worked in various roles until July of this year when his cancer diagnosis required him to take a leave of absence. Bryan possessed an incredible work ethic and whether he was pursuing a deal for Capital Power or building a fence on the farm, his dedication to the task was unwavering.
Basketball was Bryan’s lifelong passion and through his love of the game he developed many lifelong friends. His love of fast cars, both old and new, was his hobby. He loved to analyze old cars, make plans to work on them and eventually restore them. He enjoyed learning about and taking apart engines, he took welding courses for autobody work and then practiced his skills on old wrecks, swapping engines, welding panels, fixing carburetors. He enjoyed travelling throughout his lifetime including hiking in Nepal and Macha Pichu with his dad, touring Portugal with his mom and brother, and taking family holidays to Ireland, England, South Africa, Florida and Hawaii, often golfing with his family where ever they went.
A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, January 31, 2025, at Connelly-McKinley Edmonton South, 4820 Meridian Street NW, Edmonton, for family and friends. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the United Way Capital Region or to the Hope Mission.
Arrangements entrusted to Connelly-McKinley Edmonton South.
