BROOKE LEIGHTIZER
It is with deep gratitude for a life well-lived and profound sadness for the love we will miss that we share the passing of Brooke on April 21, 2025. He left this world peacefully at home in Iroquois, as was his wish. Brooke will be remembered for many things – his love of poker, his sense of humor, his unique perspectives on life, his skill on the golf course, and his less successful attempts at home renovations. Most importantly, his legacy is his passion for people and the community. As an educator, he held a special place in his heart not only for diligent, hardworking students but also for the troublemakers and those who learned differently. He was a past member of the Iroquois Matilda Lions Club and was always willing to volunteer or help out when someone was in need. There was never a doubt that he would show up – for his family, his friends, or even a stranger. Brooke’s love for poker was legendary among his friends and family. Poker nights with his buddies always led to laughter and friendly banter filling the room. His sense of humor was infectious; he had a knack for making those around him smile, whether through his witty remarks or his playful antics. His unique perspectives on life were a source of inspiration, often sparking deep conversations that left a lasting impact on those who knew him. Brooke cherished his time spent golfing with friends, always ready with a joke or a word of encouragement. Whether he was celebrating a well-earned birdie or laughing off a missed putt, Brooke’s love for the game and the camaraderie it fostered was unmistakable. The kindness he showed to others has come back tenfold to the family he leaves behind. He was the loving husband of Nelly for 48 years, father to Alan (Hools) and Karla Hough (Andrew), and the best Grampa to Maddox and Paxton. Brooke will be fondly missed by his sisters, Audrey Vrooman and Vicki Leightizer, and his brothers and sisters in law, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Sydney Leightizer and Helen Leightizer. He will be missed beyond words.
