Brian William Hanly Obituary
Brian William Hanly passed away on Tuesday, March 11, 2025 at the Stratford General Hospital. Born in Stratford on June 23, 1950 at the Stratford Hospital.
Beloved brother of Brenda Reid and her husband Fred of Stratford, Dave Hanly and his wife Cathy of Stratford, and Bruce Hanly and his wife, Janet of Winnipeg.
Predeceased by his mother, Elizabeth (Paterson) (Bell) Hanly, and his father William Hanly, both of the St. Marys area.
Also loved by many nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews, Maranatha House and L’Arche family members.
Brian was an active member of the L’Arche Community for 48 years and received great support from L’Arche. He enjoyed participating in their many activities, programs and events.
Brian loved sports and outdoor/indoor activities, including special Olympic activities, T-Ball, swimming, weekly bowling at Mike’s Lanes (ever treasuring his scorecard and proudly showing it to all), movie days, and Stratford Festival Theatre performances. He loved his Blue Jays, attending several games and watching the Blue Jays and Maple Leafs on TV. He also loved frequenting the Stratford Mall, enjoying Tim Horton’s coffee and ice-caps. He was also known to frequent Bentley’s and enjoy a beer with the “gang”.
Brian has always loved singing and listening to music, more recently watching and listening to sit-coms and shows on his I-pad. Brian always greeted everyone he met with a BIG bright smile and a warm handshake, which will never be forgotten.
In celebration of Brian’s life, a service will be held at the W.G. Young Funeral Home, 430 Huron St Stratford, at 1:30pm on Sunday, March 23rd, with visitation from 12pm until the time of the service. A reception in the reception center of the funeral home to follow. A link to the livestream of Brian’s service will be available on the W.G. Young Funeral Home website.
As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations to L’Arche Stratford, Stratford General Hospital, or charity of choice are welcome and appreciated, and can be made through the funeral home.
