Brian’s Obituary
It is with great sadness that the family of Brian Michael Murphy announces his passing on February 21 at the Solders Memorial Hospital in Middleton.
Born on May 3, 1945, in Quebec City, Quebec, Brian was the son of the late Harold “Howard” Joseph Murphy and Yvette Patry.
Brian spent 35 years as a Flight Service Director with Air Canada and during that time travelled the world making friends, exploring, and enhancing his considerable intellect. Upon retirement, Brian spent a few years running the Planter’s Historic Inn in Port Williams NS before he finally turned his full attention to his lifelong love of stamp collecting, opening the Philatelic Emporium with his good friend and business partner, the late Kenneth Price.
Growing up in Montreal and living some years in the Niagara region of Ontario, Brian moved to NS in the 1980s and never left. He most loved his time spent on the South Shore but also greatly enjoyed his last few decades spent in the Annapolis Valley.
Brian had a lifetime love of learning and was an avid reader, explorer and procurer or knowledge. He also greatly enjoyed history and antiques, regularly visiting garage sales and flea markets looking for hidden treasures.
Brian also loved nature. Every season he always had his hummingbird feeder out, never failing to provide his beloved feathered friends a hearty meal with a nice perch to rest on as they ate. Brian also enjoyed his chipmunk companions, one of which used to sit a trusted few inches away from him, both mutually enjoying each others company.
Brian will be lovingly remembered for his sharp whit, meticulous attention to detail and fierce independence.
Brian is survived by his daughter Erin Murphy, son Sean Murphy, grandson Hunter Murphy, granddaughter Hannah Murphy, and sister Lynn Walsh.
The family wishes to thank Middleton Funeral Home for overseeing Brian’s cremation. As per Brian’s express wish, no ceremony will be held. Arrangements have been entrusted to Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main St., toll free 1-855-825-3448. Online guest book may be signed by visiting: www.middletonfuneralhome.com
