Obituary
It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that the family of the late Blandford Francis announce his peaceful passing on Monday March 10th, 2025 at the Dr. Charles L. LeGrow Health Centre, Port aux Basques, NL at the age of 74 years, with loving family by his side.
Born in Lapoile, NL. Blandford was the son of the late Charles and Martha Francis ( nee Taylor). He was also predeceased by his brother Ron Francis and sister Mary-Jane (James)Taylor, mother and father in law Harriett and Thomas Taylor, brother and sister in laws Henry Neil, Philip(Jessie)Taylor, Willis Francis, Alice Bird and Elsie Francis.
He leaves to mourn with fond and precious memories his loving wife of nearly 53 years, Olive; his children Gilbert (Tina), Perry, Roxanne, Dustin (Tina); grandchildren Kaitlyn, Brittney, Braeden, Jaelen, and Daemen. Brothers Clifford Francis, and Garfield (Mildred) Francis. sister and brother in laws Evelyn Neil, Julia Francis ,Debbie(Roland)Organ and Clayton Bird.
Blandford was a devoted fishermen who always greeted everyone with a warm smile and a helping hand. When he wasn’t aboard a boat fishing he could be found with a hammer or saw in his hands. He used his self taught carpenter’s skills to supervise and help in the construction of the local Museum, bait shed, and wharfs.
Upon retirement he could still be found around the bait shed helping the fishermen with gear, recreational fishing off around black rock, hanging out on the hill, and taking an evening stroll with his old friends Hughie and Roland.
He often was grateful and spoke highly of Chris King who he would call his “adopted son” for the many road trips and home projects completed together.
Blandford’s greatest joy in life was the precious time he spent with his grandchildren, whom he considered to be his greatest blessings in life.
Family and friends are welcome to visit Wednesday, March 12th from 2-4 Pm and 6-8 Pm, and Thursday March 13th from 12-2 Pm at the East Haven Funeral Home, Port aux Basques, NL. In keeping with Blandford’s wishes cremation will follow.
Undoubtedly, truly one of the great ones.
