Obituary of Blake Hughes
(John) Blake Hughes, aged 87 passed on February 16 , 2025 in Strathroy.
Born on the 20th January 1938 in London Ontario, Blake was a long term resident of the Mt Brydges and Strathroy area.
Blake is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years Audrey (nee Gough). He was a wonderful and much loved father to his daughters Janice and Meribeth and late son Randall, and his children in law and love, David Boynton, Robert Parker, Janette Bewley and Dan Bilodeaux. He will be missed as a very special Papa to his grandchildren Rob, Jackson, Madison, Kobi, Jacob, Tate, Jesse and Saxon.
He will also be sorely missed by his loving family, Eleanor Grey and his siblings, Patti Coppard, Randy Grey, Diane and Lee Whiteside, and Tina Grey and will be remembered with fondness and love by his many nieces and nephews.
Blake will be remembered by many for his years as the inspiring Head of the Art Department of Strathroy District Collegiate Institute, and a member of Strathroy Vocal Federation Barbershop Singers now called ‘A Cappella Connection’. As a local artist he was a member of The Art Group – Strathroy Caradoc, and catalogued drawings of the historic buildings of Mt Brydges available at the local library.
From challenging beginnings Blake built a wonderful life and legacy. An avid painter, educator, dancer, curler, golfer, gardener, singer, sewer, friend and traveller, regularly visiting his children and grandchildren, Blake made sure he had a full life well lived.
At Blake’s request he will be cremated. A celebration of Blake’s life will take place at Denning’s of Strathroy, 32 Metcalfe St. W., on Tuesday, April 8th, 2025 at 12:00 p.m. to allow his grandchildren and many loved ones scattered around the globe to attend. Visitation will take place following the service as we continue his celebration of life with food and refreshments.
