NICHOLAS, Beverly
1947 – 2025
It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Ms. Beverly ‘Bev’ Marian Nicholas at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre on Thursday, February 6, 2025 at the age of 77 years. Bev was born on August 22, 1947, and raised on the family farm near Gleichen, Alberta, alongside her two sisters. She married Gary Newel of Gleichen in 1968 but left the marriage after seven years. Bev’s educational journey began at Cluny School. She took a brief break from her teaching career to further her education and graduated with Distinction from the University of Calgary, with a Bachelor of Education in 1981. Her teaching career, which began two years after High School, spanned several communities, including Wheatland County, Calgary, Ponoka, and ultimately, Rimbey. There, she touched the lives of countless students, serving as a teacher, counselor, and eventually, Assistant Principal, mentoring several generations along the way. Bev was deeply interested in politics and history, dedicating many hours to volunteering at the PasKaPoo Historical Museum in Rimbey. She was keenly interested in the lives of her five nieces and nephews, who in turn held her in high regard. She leaves behind her loving sisters, Leita Schmidt and Nola McLaren, and her brothers-in-law, Roger Schmidt and Gerry McLaren. She will also be deeply missed by her nieces, Valerie McLaren (Tommy) and Niki Wilson (Craig), her nephews, David McLaren (Bonnie), Steven McLaren (Natalie), and Michael Schmidt (April), and many dear friends. Bev was predeceased by her parents, John LeRoy Nicholas (2000) and Olive Blanche Nicholas (2011). In keeping with Bev’s wishes, there will be no formal service at this time. A Memorial gathering for family and friends will be held later this summer to honor her life and legacy. Bev’s warmth, wisdom, and dedication to her community will never be forgotten. Cremation entrusted to Parkland Funeral Home and Crematorium, Red Deer, Alberta. Condolences, memories and photos may be shared and viewed at www.parklandfuneralhome.com. Arrangements in care of Parkland Funeral Home and Crematorium, 6287 – 67 A Street (Taylor Drive), Red Deer. 403.340.4040.
