Obituary of Betty May Teal
Betty Teal passed away peacefully in her sleep on January 27, 2025 at Hamilton General Hospital in her one hundred and second year, just two weeks shy of her birthday.
Betty (nee Teal) was born in Ridgeway, Ontario where she grew up and then spent her married life in Crystal Beach, moving later to Stoney Creek to be closer to her family.
Beloved wife of the late Russell Teal (1999) and predeceased by her sister Mary Lou Burd (2017), and her parents Blake and Mannie (1987, 1958).
Betty is survived by her only son, Brian (Shirley-Ann) of Stoney Creek. Grandmother to Sarah (Jason) and Rebecca and great-grandmother to Brooklyn and Sloan. Sloan and Grandma Betty shared a sweet tooth, while Brooklyn and Grandma Betty shared a love for Velveeta Cheese. And of course, the Toronto Maple Leafs. Betty was also very proud of her great grand-pup Kaze and her great grand-kitten Betty. Kaze often would visit Betty and she loved to play with him.
Betty was a dedicated employee of Canada Postal Services, working at the Post Office in Crystal Beach from 1964 until her retirement in 1987. She was a strong supporter of Crystal Beach and had amassed multiple scrapbooks filled with historic memorabilia from the golden era of Crystal Beach Amusement Park, Crystal Ballroom, ‘Canadiana” ferry and so much more. Crystal Beach always remained “home” to Betty.
The family would like to acknowledge exceptional friends who kept in touch with Betty throughout her adult years, reaching out through letters and phone calls. Special thanks to Lenny, Sandra, Eva, Betty, and Effie.
Appreciation and gratitude are extended to Amica Retirement Home in Stoney Creek where Betty spent the last eighteen months of her life and to Dr. Talman and the medical staff at Hamiliton General Hospital for their care of Betty and the empathy shown to the family.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Williams Funeral Services. As per Betty’s wishes cremation has taken place and will be followed later with a private family graveside service.
Memorial donations may be made to the Lions Foundation of Canada, Dog Guides, Oakville Ontario www.dogguides.com.
