Gubernt, Bertha – Age 92 of Kingston, Kings Co., passed away Saturday, January 18, 2025, in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Allan, SK., she was the daughter of the late George and Catherine (Reisling) Merkel. Bertha was well known for working as playground supervisor at Kingston Elementary School for over 21 years and those were the happiest times of her life. She will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by all who knew her. Bertha is survived by her son James, Kingston; daughter Cathi (Tom) Baltus, Burlington, ON; daughters-in-law, Sheila Gubernt, Kingston; Cheryl Gubernt, Middleton; grandchildren, Luke (Hillary) Baltus, Toronto; Maja (Mike) De Eyres, Toronto; Michael (Tonya) Gubernt, Cole Harbour; Alice (Brian) Dempsey, Kingston; Katie Gubernt, Middleton; Jessica (Dustin) Conrad, Gainsville, Florida; eight great-grandchildren; niece Susan Lisko, Regina, SK. Besides her parents, Bertha was predeceased by her husband Frank; sons Peter and Patrick; brothers Michael in childhood and George; sisters Emily in infancy and Anna D’Arcy. Cremation has taken place and there will be no service at this time. Arrangements have been entrusted to Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main St., toll free: 1-855-825-3448.
