Bernice Mary Wells Beloved Wife, Mother, Sister and Grandmother
It is with great sadness that the family of Bernice Wells announces her passing, surrounded by her loved ones at the Health Science Centre in St. John’s, on February 11th, 2025, at the age of 78. Born March 24th,1946, to the late Thomas and Doris Tancock in Torquay, England. Bernice faced medical challenges in recent years with remarkable courage and always greeted life’s obstacles with a smile.
Bernice was known for her gentle spirit and unwavering kindness, leaving a lasting impression on everyone she encountered. Her strength was a true inspiration, offering comfort, resilience, and guidance through difficult times.
She will be lovingly remembered by her devoted husband of 61 years, Bill, and their three cherished children, Tom (Ellen), Linda, and Daryl (Jeanette). Bernice’s legacy lives on through her beloved grandchildren—Rebecca, Laura, Erica, and Olivia—and her dear sister and best friend, Linda. She is also survived by her brothers, Robert (Jeanie) and Dave (Doreen).
Bernice’s memory will be carried on by her extended family, including nieces and nephews Kelly and Barry; Brandy and Julie; and Jill, Ashley, and Nicole.
Beyond her family, Bernice had a deep love for the Toronto Blue Jays and spent countless hours cheering them on. Her passion for gardening, especially growing strawberries, brought her immense joy and connected her with nature in a way that reflected her nurturing spirit.
She will be deeply missed by her many friends, including the close-knit group from Bill W, whose support and camaraderie greatly enriched her family’s life.
Cremation has taken place. A service to celebrate Bernice’s life will be held on March 11, 2025, at the chapel at Barrett’s Funeral Home on Hamilton Avenue. Bernice’s life was a true reflection of compassion, resilience, and the enduring strength of faith and love. Her legacy of selflessness and generosity will continue to inspire all who were fortunate to know her.
The family would like to extend our deepest gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and staff at the Health Sciences Centre for their exceptional care and compassion during Bernice’s time there. Your kindness, support, and dedication brought comfort to both Bernice and our family in our most difficult moments. We will always be grateful for the warmth and dignity with which you cared for her.
