Riding free on his final journey, Bernard “Edward” Campbell passed away peacefully after a sudden and brief illness, surrounded by the love of his family.
Born in Fairfield, PEI, on June 30, 1959, to the late Louis J. and Flora Campbell (née Jarvis), he was 65 years old. He leaves behind the love of his life and faithful sidekick, Juanita Tassell, along with her daughter Jessica, whom he deeply loved.
Ed is survived by his siblings: Daniel (Donna), Peter (Kathi), Marie Mossey, Loretta Campbell (Steve), Maureen Hanley (Alex), Donna Campbell-Dixon (Bob, deceased), Donald (Sherri), John (Gail), and Melvin (Judy), as well as his brother-in-law Paul Glidden and his dear friend Gerard Campbell. He is also survived by many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members. He was predeceased by his brother Buddy, his sister Mel Glidden, infant brother Richard, nephew Christopher Mossey, niece Angela Campbell and brothers-in-law Bob Dixon and Brian Mossey.
Ed moved gently through the world, never making much of a fuss. He loved his big family and was always proud to introduce someone to his siblings, nieces, nephews, or cousins. He took the role of “Uncle Ed” seriously. When Juanita and Jessica came into his life, he couldn’t wait to make them part of it all. So while he moved gently, he cut a big swath.
He found freedom on his Harley-Davidson and, through his bike, discovered a rich community of friends. Ed never lost touch with anyone he called a friend. He was fiercely loyal and always up for a game of crib, a ride, a trip to the west coast to fish salmon or just hanging out at the RV.
Ed’s family will host an informal gathering at The Souris Legion on Sunday, March 9, from 2-4 PM. Please join us and bring your stories and love.
By personal request, there will be no visitation or funeral service. A private celebration of life will take place at a later date.
Donations in Ed’s memory can be made to the NB Ride Against Cancer through the Friends of the Moncton Hospital Foundation. This organization has had a large impact on the Campbell family and the Moncton Hospital serves the needs of many Islanders.
