The family of Barbara Ann Cleaves are sad to announce her passing on December 20, 2024, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
Barb was born on April 26, 1947 in Annapolis Royal, where she lived until she went to reside at Orchard Court- Shannex, Kentville, where she lived for eight years. While there she received loving and compassionate care. We would like to thank Dr. Targett who was her doctor while living at Orchard Court. We would also like to thank Gina who was always there to answer our questions and lend a helping hand.
Barb was predeceased by her father, Harold Cleaves. She is survived by her mother, Marilyn Cleaves, Mountain Lea Lodge, Bridgetown; sisters, Patty (Brian) Smith, Bridgetown and Carol (Arthur) Smith, Liverpool; nephews, Jeff Smith (partner Leah White), Camrose Alberta and Jason (Kelly) Smith; his children, Brandon and Mara, Bridgetown; nieces, Jennifer (Ryan) Zakariassen, Orleans, Ontario and Emily (Chris) Roy, their son, Nathan and daughter, Alex, Mahone Bay.
Barb was a teacher for 34 years teaching grades primary, one and two at Clark Rutherford Memorial, on the Cornwallis Base. She was also the school’s Union Representative. Whenever she saw her students out of school, they would run up to her and give her a big hug.
Her passions in life were her family, collecting antiques, her church and her canine companions of which her miniature Schnauzer Abey was her favorite. Barb was a lifelong member of the First United Baptist Church, Annapolis Royal where she sang in the church choir and was on several committees. She was also a member of the Red Hat Society where she made many new friends and enjoyed their outings. Following Barb’s wishes cremation has taken place. A funeral service will be held after the holidays. Donations made in Barb’s memory can be made to the Alzheimer’s Society or to The First United Baptist Church, Annapolis Royal.
