Obituary of Audrey Estelle Meredith Jesch
With heavy hearts we share the passing of our Mom, Audrey Meredith (Rawson/Jesch) in her 96th year on July 6th at home with her family and her fur babies by her side.
Born to Mary and Bill Meredith in Strathroy ON, Audrey leaves her 3 daughters, Victoria Rawson, Joyce Sanderson, Kim Jesch (John Field) and her 2 grandchildren Greg Sanderson and Brooke Rawson, her niece Margaret Murray (Don), nephews John Falls (Bev), Stephen Hull, Nelson Hull, her fur babies Shadow, Peaches, Jessi, Bali, Gigi and many great nieces and nephews, cousins and family.
Special friends Jonna Wilson and Margaret Walsh. Predeceased by her husband Howard Rawson, sister Elva Falls Annis, brother-in- law William Annis and nephew Tom Falls and niece Lisa Hull.
Audrey started dancing in 1944 at which point her life began to be dedicated to the world of dance and entertainment. She started a dance line “The Versatiles” in the 50’s and worked across Canada with many acts. She performed many times at The Granite Club, Boulevard Club, The Royal York, C.N.E. , The Garden Bros. Circus, and with Jack Bateman (Magician assistant), and The Dumbells(Jack Ayre). During her early career Audrey also enjoyed modelling and later promoting new talent.
Relocating the family to California in the 60’s, she continued to reach for the stars and loved reminiscing all the fun memories, loving every minute of it!
She owned and operated 3+ dance schools: Audrey Meredith School of Dancing and Dancewear Centres in Toronto and Mississauga with her last one being in Milton; Audrey Meredith Dance Centres and Milton Centre for Music and Theatre Arts from 1973-1999.
Audrey was nominated “Business Woman of the Year” from the Milton Chamber of Commerce in 1983 and was an active member of the DBIA and strong supporter for the Milton Theatre and the Arts in Milton until she retired. She was a Lifetime member of the Canadian Dance Teachers Association, R.A.D, Dance Masters of America and was an active dance examiner across Canada until she was 88 yrs old.
After retirement she moved back home to Mt.Brydges to follow in her mother’s footsteps. Rekindling her relationship with the Woman’s Institute of Ontario and the U.E.L. as an Honorary Member of the United Empire Loyalist Association of Canada.
She loved spending her winters at her place in New Port Ritchey, Florida, having fun playing golf, gardening, travelling ( Vegas, Spain, Portugal, Singapore, Hawaii, Caribbean), watching old classic movies and of course dancing to the big band jazz sounds at various venues. In her retirement Audrey remained passionate about researching her family history and ancestry which she was so very proud of!
Her second passion was being a foster mom to many fur babies since a child and a supporter of the Ontario Humane Society for many years.
Our mom’s biggest joy in life was to know that her legacy will live on through all her students that have carried on the love of dance through their life and careers. She was extremely proud of everyone she nurtured, promoted and mentored.
An extra special thank you is sent to all the dedicated support provided by Home & Community Care Services, the Complex Care Team, Community Paramedicine, and ParaMed. We are so appreciative of the loving care shown to our Mother from the many skilled and compassionate nurses and PSWs who visited Mother regularly and from wonderful caregivers from the VON and Closing the Gap.
A sincere thank you to the ongoing support and the care from the McCormick Day Program & Alzheimer’s Society over the past 3 years! Their love and nurturance made a huge difference in Mother’s care and well being!
In honour of Audrey, Donations to either the Humane Society or The Alzheimer’s Society would be greatly appreciated.
Visitation will take place at Denning’s of Strathroy on July 10, 2025, from 11 – 1 pm where a Celebration of Life will take place at 1 pm. Following a reception, burial will take place at Mt. Brydges Cemetery. Share a memory at www.strathroyfuneralhome.com
