Obituary of APHRODITE HROUSALAS
We are heartbroken to share the passing of our wonderful mom and grandmother on February 28, 2025.
Aphrodite was a fiercely independent 91-year-old who had to overcome much adversity in her lifetime. Throughout, she maintained a devotion to her Greek Orthodox faith, intense love and joy for her family, and unparalleled strength and resilience.
Aphrodite was born in 1934 near Sparta in Agios Demetrios, Greece, to a large and loving family. Like so many others of her generation, she immigrated to Canada, where she worked as an expert seamstress and later in the retail fashion sector. She married our sweet dad, Frank, in January 1966, and after an extended honeymoon traveling in Greece, they purchased their home, began their family, and immersed themselves in the philanthropic and social activities of the Greek Hellenic community and in their River Heights neighbourhood. Aphrodite valued all of her relationships with extended family, friends, and neighbours, making it a priority to volunteer, be involved, and to stay connected. She was a longtime member of the St. Demetrios Choir, the Daughters of Penelope, the Ladies of Philoptohos, and most recently the St. Demetrios “Forever Young” Club.
Aphrodite was immensely proud of her two children, Jim and Christina Hrousalas, their spouses, Dina Coutris and Terry Davison, and most of all, her adored grandchildren, Foti and Strati Hrousalas, and Aphrodite (Tia) and Andreas Davison. She spread her love generously through food, family gatherings, laughter, and storytelling. Nothing felt better than a tight hug from Yiayia! She loved to cook and bake traditional Greek food, made a fabulous spanakopita from scratch, and enjoyed experimenting with new recipes. She was an avid reader, a gardener, and loved to have spontaneous fun. We were so fortunate to have her in our lives!
Aphrodite was predeceased by her loving husband, Frank Hrousalas, her parents, George and Evthokia Konstas, and all of her siblings, Jim, Nina, Panagiotis, and Kostas.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 5, 2025 at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, 2255 Grant Avenue. Memorial donations can be made to St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church.
