It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Anne Elizabeth McMurchy (nee Joseph) on December 14, 2024, at the age of 73 years. She will forever be loved and remembered by her devoted husband, Kelly; her children, Tyler (Tracey) and Lisa (Dan); her grandchildren, Alexander and Mila McMurchy, and Delaney and Brynn Alspach; as well as her large extended family and countless treasured friends. She was predeceased by her parents, Ted and Mildred Joseph, and her sister, Merna Kostuk.
Anne was born on November 23, 1951, in Saskatoon. In her words, her childhood on the farm near Young, SK, was “paradise”, and she treasured growing up with many aunts, uncles and cousins nearby.
Anne attended Limestone Hill School near the family homestead. When that school closed, she attended Simmons School and later, graduated from Mcclellan High School in Young. Following high school, she completed a secretarial course and started her career working at two mines in the Saskatoon/Colonsay area.
She met the love of her life, Kelly McMurchy, in March of 1972 while living in an apartment complex in Saskatoon. They were engaged on June 17, 1972, and married November 4 of that year. We were all witnesses to the great love and devotion between them throughout their 52 years of marriage.
Kelly’s career with Scotiabank and several transfers offered the opportunity to live in many different communities and forge lifelong friendships along the way. After starting their wedded life together in Nipawin, they lived in Moose Jaw (arrival of Tyler – 1976), Swift Current, Choiceland (arrival of Lisa – 1979), Carrot River, Saskatoon and ultimately Regina where Anne and Kelly made their home until today. They also shared their time between Regina and Melville when their grandchildren were small, which was truly a blessing.
Anne worked at Scotiabank branches in Carrot River, Saskatoon and Regina, and later as a secretary at the University of Regina Theatre Department before retiring.
Anne was well known for being an exceptional friend and hostess. Her attention to detail was second to none. For her, entertaining and looking after others was just an extension of her caring and generous nature. She was so attentive to the needs and comfort of those around her. Her circle of friends was wide-ranging as she had become an adopted mother figure to many.
Anne had a special talent for creating keepsakes for family and friends. Many were fortunate recipients of baby blankets, personalized birthday cards and crafts. Anne’s pride in her children and grandchildren was so evident. She loved sharing the news of their activities and achievements. In addition to creating detailed family history albums for her family and extended family, she lovingly captured all of her grandchildren’s activities and achievements in scrapbooks which are a treasured legacy of her pride and devotion.
Anne had a great (and sometimes sassy) sense of humour. She enjoyed keeping in touch with those close to her via hours-long phone chats with cousins and friends. She was also a devoted talk radio listener and would keep us all informed about current events and her related opinions.
Anne was enjoying life until a very recently diagnosed illness. While we are heartbroken by losing her so suddenly, we take some comfort in knowing that she did not have to endure this for an extended period. She passed away peacefully surrounded by her family and feeling the love from all of her friends and family who cared about her so deeply. Her family will be forever grateful for the excellent, compassionate care provided by the St. Peter’s Hospital team in Melville.
Family and friends will gather to celebrate Anne’s life on Sunday, January 12, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at the Atlas Hotel in Regina. To honour this colourful, amazing, vibrant person, we invite attendees to wear something turquoise, Anne’s favourite colour.
In lieu of flowers, Anne’s family invites you to make a donation to the Saskatchewan Kinsmen Foundation (Telemiracle). Anne looked forward to watching Telemiracle each year. She loved the entertainment and adding to her Telemiracle Teddy collection. We hope you can support this great cause in Anne’s memory.
