On the early morning of January 24, 2025, at the age of 87 years, our beloved Anne passed away peacefully at Bethania Personal Care Home.
Anne was born in Winnipeg on August 10th, 1937. She attended Lord Kitchener School and later Mennonite Brethren Collegiate Institute. Growing up in the North Kildonan Mennonite Brethren Church. Anne accepted Christ as her saviour and was baptized upon confession of her faith. Her faith and her relationship with Jesus was a source of comfort and strength throughout her entire life. Her commitment to God was evidenced through the love she showed to her family and friends. After her retirement, she hosted a weekly prayer group in her apartment. Being a part of Nursing Christian Fellowship and being active in her church were two things that were also very important and dear to her heart.
Anne trained as a Registered Nurse at St. Boniface Hospital. Later she received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from the University of Alberta in Edmonton.
She worked as a nurse in several hospitals in Winnipeg as well as in Vancouver and Hawaii. She also spent time in Ethiopia during their time of famine as a volunteer. Anne was a very loving and generous person. She volunteered for many organizations and was eager to help those in their time of need.
She was a devoted sister and Aunt/Tante. She treasured her family and supported each family member in a special way; always encouraging and taking an interest in the lives of her nieces and nephews.
Anne had a zest for life! She travelled to India, Israel, Russia as well as several countries in Europe. Anne loved the arts. She loved to visit art galleries and was a season ticket holder for the opera and the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra for many years. Anne had season tickets for the Winnipeg Goldeyes and attended many games with her friends and her sister, Kate. Anne also loved God’s creations and enjoyed the outdoors. She enjoyed curling, skiing, golfing, and swimming.
Anne is survived by her sister Velma Alford and brother-in-law Charles Alford, her sister-in-law Lydia Kehler, and her brother-in-law Eugene Regehr, as well as many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. She was predeceased by her sister Helen Regehr in 1997 and her sister Kate Kehler in 2022.
Anne had many dear and life-long loyal friends who have supported her and encouraged her over the years; especially when she struggled with her memory and was diagnosed with dementia. The many visits they paid her were always appreciated. She was only able to stay in her apartment because of the help and support she received from her devoted sister Kate. In her later years of life, her nephews and niece Donald Regehr and Reynold and Karis Regehr, provided additional support.
As a family we are very grateful for the love and care Anne received from the wonderful staff at Bethania Personal Care Home.
The family would like to thank you for being here to remember our sister and aunt Anne. Your presence is a blessing to us, your prayers, and expressions of condolences and kind gestures are truly appreciated.
