MAGUIRE, Anna Maria (nee van Boerdonk)
March 29, 1934 – March 22, 2025
It is with deep love and sorrow that we announce the peaceful passing of Anna Maria Maguire at the age of 90, on March 22, 2025, at the Sault Area Hospital. A cherished resident of St. Joseph’s Island, Anna Maria was just shy of her 91st birthday.
Anna Maria was the beloved wife of the late Norman Maguire and mother to Norma Elliott (Alan), the late Sandra Maguire (Brent), Charleen Haruta (Derek), and Anne Marie Mezzomo (Wayne). She leaves a legacy of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren who will carry her memory in their hearts.
Born in Eindhoven, Noord-Brabant, Netherlands to the late Peter and Hendrika van Boerdonk, Anna Maria was the eldest sibling to William van Boerdonk (Mary), Johanna Taglibaracci (Don), and Martin van Boerdonk (Anja).
She adored the family farm where she resided for over 70 years, finding joy in her cats, her vibrant geraniums, and the simple beauty of island life.
In accordance with her wishes, no visitation or formal services will take place. A spring burial will be held at the Holy Trinity Anglican Cemetery for family and friends (date to be announced) to honour her life and legacy.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the PSW Outreach Program for their exceptional care over the last three years, to the kind neighbours of St. Joseph’s Island for their thoughtful acts of kindness, and to her loyal friend Kim for the daily calls and companionship that brightened Anna Maria’s days.
Special thanks to all NSHN (Matthews & Blind River sites) Doctors and Nurses. Also special thanks to the paramedics who transferred mom back to SAH, and to the nurses of 3C and Dr. Oliver for the exceptional care. You were all so kind and made mom’s journey peaceful.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory can be made to the PSW Outreach Program (Etransfer to payment@stjosephtownship.com or cheque to The Township of St. Joseph with PSW Program in the memo line), the SSM Humane Society (payable online or by cheque), or a charity of your choice.
