It is with
much sadness that we announce the passing of Anna Catherine MacDonald
of Antigonish, Nova Scotia, at St. Martha’s Hospital on
February 20, 2025, after a long battle with
cancer.
Born in
Antigonish, Anna worked for many years at St. Francis Xavier
University Aquatic Department and finished her career with the
Opportunity Shop.
Anna liked
the simple things in life such as growing up on a farm with seven
siblings, her morning coffee with a newspaper and doing the daily
crossword. She enjoyed hiking and snowshoeing with her friends and so
many walks on ‘The Landing’.
Anna
cherished her nieces and nephews, always remembering and celebrating
every milestone. Her kind and loving nature was reflected in her
generosity.
Anna was the
daughter of the late John William MacDonald and Lillian C. (MacLellan)
MacDonald, Glencoe, Guysborough County, NS.
She is
survived by her sister Peggy Doiron (Raymond), Moncton, NB, three
brothers, John (Rita), Toronto, ON, Lewis (Bonnie), Moncton, NB, and
Vince, Guysborough, NS. Her niece, Lindsay Ralph (Chris),
Stephenville, NL, her nephew Brandon Vooro, BC. Two grand nieces,
Lillian and Brooklyn and grand nephew, Drew.
Anna was
predeceased by her parents, maternal grandparents Joe ‘The
Hermit’ MacLellan and Margaret Ann MacDonald, paternal
grandparents Matthias John MacDonald and Mary A. MacDonald, her three
sisters, Jean MacDonald, Donna MacDonald and Angela Vooro, and her
nephew, Andrew Doiron.
The day will
not shine so brightly with Anna not in it.
Cremation has
taken place. Visitation will be held at C L Curry Funeral Home, 135
College St. Antigonish on Tuesday, February 25th from 1:00pm until
time of service in the funeral home at 3:00pm. Reverend Donald
MacGillivray presiding.
Anna’s family wishes to express their
heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Bentley and his staff as well as Dr.
McKenna and the team at St. Martha’s Hospital for her care
in Oncology and Palliative Care.
