In Loving Memory of Ann-Marie Primeau
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Ann- Marie Primeau, on
February 2, 2025, in Burlington, Ontario, at the age of 81. Ann-Marie was born on December
10, 1943, in Toronto, Ontario, and leaves a legacy of love, kindness, and profound
dedication to those she cherished.
Ann-Marie was the loving wife of Jean-Claude (Joe) Primeau for nearly 55 years, a
partnership built on deep devotion and mutual respect. Together, they created a life rich in
warmth, laughter, and unwavering support. Ann-Marie was the loving mother to Renée
(John), Phil (Emma), Marc (Cimm) and Larissa (Will), each of whom was blessed by her
boundless love and wisdom. Above all, she was the proud grandmother of five beautiful
grandchildren, as well as three granddogs, all of whom filled her heart with joy.
Ann-Marie’s career as a Registered Nurse was just the beginning of her lifelong mission to
help others. Her passion for supporting those in grief led her to return to school and become
a bereavement counselor, working as the head of the Burlington Bereavement Resource
Council, where she touched countless lives with her gentle compassion. She finished her
career working full-time with the Victorian Order of Nurses (VON). Ann-Marie was known for
her professional excellence and for the depth of her empathy. She was a constant source of
comfort, always putting the needs of others before her own.
Ann-Marie had a remarkable ability to balance the serious with the lighthearted, her
intelligence was matched only by her sense of humour. She was a thoughtful and engaging
conversationalist, whether discussing world events, diving into literature, or exploring the
chaos of today’s politics. Her dry wit often left those around her laughing, and her presence
brought a sense of ease to every room she entered. Getting Mom laughing to the point of
tears was one of the best feelings ever. Her laughter might be the thing we miss the most.
Her greatest peace was found in the comfort of her home and her cottage in Southampton,
where she provided a sanctuary of love and security for her family, making everyone feel
welcome and cherished. Her love for the simple joys of life—sewing, knitting, gardening,
baking, and reading—shone through in every detail of her home, which was always warm
and inviting. Her baking was legendary. Her chocolate chip cookies, brownies, and apple pie
were the best and her famous roast chicken, mashed potatoes, and gravy, will forever be
remembered as the heart of family gatherings.
Ann-Marie had a deep affection for animals, a fascination with true crime stories, and Shark
Week episodes. She was a passionate supporter of the Toronto Blue Jays, always ready to
cheer on her team with unbridled enthusiasm.
Ann-Marie is survived by her older brother, Neil Walker (Linda Zaks-Walker), and many
other beloved family members. When Mom was in her last days, Neil reminded her that
when they were kids, she would chase the bullies away despite being his younger sister.
This is the simple story that encapsulates all that Mom was. Loving, strong, independent,
loyal, and fiercely protective of those she loves.
Above all, her greatest pride was her family—the love she shared with her beloved husband
Jean-Claude, the joy of raising four children, and the immeasurable happiness her five
grandchildren brought into her life. Her legacy of love, strength, and compassion will live on
through each of them.
The loss of our Mom leaves a void that cannot be filled, but her spirit will forever remain in
the hearts of all who knew her. She leaves behind not just a memory, but a profound impact
on the lives she so tenderly cared for—a true caregiver in every sense of the word.
In keeping with Ann-Marie’s wishes, a private family service will take place. If desired, memorial donations to Good Shepherd would be appreciated by the family. Arrangements entrusted to SMITH’S FUNERAL HOME (BURLINGTON) (905-632-3333) www.smithsfh.com
