(1960 – 2025)
It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Ana Maria Stattmiller De Saldanha Lopes Teixeira, on March 11th, 2025, at the age of 64 due to a sudden heart attack brought on by the flu. She will be lovingly remembered by her three children, Anuska (Matthew), Kyle (Geordan), Keehan (Stella) , her sisters Angela (Victor) and Alexandra (Ellie), her parents Carlos and Maria Elvira, and her grandchildren Jalen and Kianda. Ana will be deeply missed by us all, including her nieces, nephews, adoring extended family in Montreal and Portugal, and the broader community that she served as a psychologist for nearly 30 years.
Ana was born in Luanda, Angola in 1960, where she spent her childhood and teenage years before escaping the country in the middle of the night with her family amidst the Angolan civil war. With two tabby cats in tow, they fled across the Kalahari Desert to South Africa before immigrating as political refugees to Montreal, Quebec, Canada in 1976.
Ana adapted steadfastly to her new environment, learning the language by memorizing the dictionary and excelling at her studies as a decorated student. Her partner, Antonio Martins, also having fled Angola, immigrated some years later and together they started a family in Montreal’s plateau. While pursuing her bachelor’s and master’s degrees at McGill University in psychology, Ana had three children, Anuska, Kyle and Keehan, to whom she dedicated much of her life. They moved to Dorval and then Beaconsfield, where she secured a stable, safe, and cozy home for her family, providing them with a refuge from life’s hardships.
Parallel to her vocation as a mother, Ana’s professional life was marked by service, founding a private practice in 1996 and working tirelessly most evenings in support of her patients. She specialized in crisis management and trauma therapy, helping families through their most difficult periods, be it fathers diagnosed with late-stage cancer, mothers losing their children, the elderly struggling with suicide and loss – she would listen patiently to their woes and provide them with the tools to overcome challenges.
Despite the hardships she faced, Ana was dedicated to her family, her practice, her community, and until her final moments she gave all of herself to others. Ana had an immense capacity for love, and she will be deeply missed by her parents, her sisters, her children, her grandchildren, and the countless people she supported through difficult times.
To honor and celebrate Ana’s life, a visitation and ceremony will be held on Saturday, March 22nd at Lakeshore Cardinal Funeral Home (560, Lakeshore Dr, Dorval, H9S 2B3, 514-631-1511). Family will be present to receive condolences during the visitation period at 13h, and a ceremony will take place at 14h.
Folks are welcome to leave a tribute message below.
In lieu of flowers, we invite you to donate to the International foundation for CDKL5 Research, as this was a cause dear to Ana’s heart in honor of her great-niece.
