Alvin Klause Obituary
Alvin Klause was born in Wetaskiwin, Alberta, on August 24, 1931, and spent his entire life in his beloved hometown. He married Hedy Grams, his high school sweetheart, and together they shared a passion for music and a love of life.
Alvin was a talented musician who played the violin, trumpet, and cornet—an instrument his father taught him at the age of 15. Aside from his musical accomplishments, Alvin ran a successful business in Wetaskiwin for over 50 years and served as the Mayor of Crystal Springs at Pigeon Lake. He was deeply involved with the Elks Lodge and volunteered as the official bugler for the Wetaskiwin Royal Canadian Legion Br. 86 for many years. Alvin was also an avid snow skier and water skier, and a true pillar of the community.
Alvin was a key figure in the Wetaskiwin Carol Festival, serving as volunteer chairman and master of ceremonies for the first 14 years of the event. He and Hedy were active members of the Wetaskiwin First United Church, where Alvin volunteered as a Trustee, a member of the Memorial Committee, and Treasurer of the “As One That Serves” (AOTS) Men’s Club. He sang tenor in the men’s church choir and taught Sunday School.
Alvin’s love for music and performance was evident in his words, “Comradery and enjoyment of it; I just love to perform.”
Alvin is survived by his three children, Kevin (Heather), Carolyn (Michael), and Ken (Alix); his grandchildren, Stephanie (Chad), Nicolas (Rachel), Georgia (Bryce), Hudson (Brianna), and his two great-grandchildren, Arlis (Chad/Stephanie) and Shia (Bryce/Georgia). He was predeceased by his wife, Hedy as well as his siblings, Walt Klause and Harry Klause.
“Music… amongst the gifts that God hath sent… one of the most magnificent.”
Alvin’s life was a symphony of dedication, passion, and service, and his legacy will be cherished by all who knew him.
A memorial service will take place on Monday, April 28, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. at the First United Church in Wetaskiwin, Alberta.
