Obituary of Alma Linnea Ingeborg Clouston
Alma Clouston – 1920 to 2025
Alma Linnea Ingeborg Clouston (nee Olsson), age 104, passed away peacefully at Oromocto Public Hospital on January 26, 2025.
Predeceased by her husband Byron, Alma is survived by her children: Glenda (Ken McLeod), Evelyn Ward, and Norman (Karen); seven grandchildren: Linnea, Stacey (Carl), Michael, Sherry (Colton), Elizabeth, Lindsey, and Robert (Holly); and eight great-grandchildren: Deakon, Charlotte, Mitchell, Luke, Noah, Connor, Ben and Lydia. She also leaves behind in-laws: Murray Clouston, Hughie and Edith Clouston, Alton Smith, and Ruth Clouston, and several nieces and nephews.
Alma was born at home, June 24, 1920, on Sinclair Island, Washington, USA, to Swedish immigrants Andreas and Alma Olsson. She was the youngest of eight children and the last remaining child. The family returned to Sweden in 1925 and later settled on a farm in Beulah, NB, in 1931. After working in Saint John, Alma moved to Ottawa, where she met and married Byron (from NB). His military career took them to many postings (Barrie; Summerside; Oromocto; Dartmouth; Soest, West Germany; Downsview; and back to Oromocto, where they remained).
After Byron’s passing in 2016, Alma lived independently until this past summer. Alma was a bright and dignified woman who had many talents, but her hand quilting stands out. A prayer and love went with each of the 150+ quilts she gave to family, friends, and acquaintances. She was a woman of deep faith and lived out her faith. When her nurse, Kellie, described her as “90 pounds of love,” we all knew what she meant. Mom was so inspiring and deeply loved by all her family and friends. She will be deeply, deeply missed.
Alma appreciated all the love and prayers extended to her. She was always so grateful and extended grace to everyone. Thanks to all who assisted her, especially in the last months, including caregivers Nicole and Cathy, and the doctors and staff in the Duffie Unit, who showed such kindness and compassion.
A celebration of Alma’s life will be held on Saturday, February 1, 2025, at Oromocto Baptist Church, 10 Doyle Drive, at 2 pm, Pastor Perry Hanley officiating, with a reception to follow. Interment to follow at a later date. For those who wish, donations in memory of Alma can be made to the Oromocto Baptist Church, Salvation Army, or a charity of the donor’s choice.
