Alma Mary Island (Ominayak)

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Alma Island, who left us on February 25, 2025, at Whitecourt, Alberta.
Alma is survived by her husband of 53 years, John Island; her sons, Clayton, Steven and Philip and her daughter, Donna Ghostkeeper. Alma leaves the living legacy of her grandchildren, Samantha Haley, Shawn Galliot, Grace Galliot, Miranda Marcoux, Laura Dobney and her great grandchild, Layne Haley. Alma’s life and spirit will also be cherished in the hearts of her siblings, Theresa Belcourt, Bella Auger, Dorothy L’Airondelle and Ernie Ominayak. Alma touched the lives of many, and though she is no longer with us, her spirit will continue to live on in the memories she created with those who knew her.
Alma was predeceased by her parents, Elzear Ominayak and Marie Alook; her sons, Johnathan and Francis and her siblings, Joseph, Madeline and John.
Alma had many passions throughout her life, including her love for the outdoors, fishing, playing Bingo and her hands were always busy with her crafting. But her greatest passion was for her family. She was so devoted to John, and while they were married for 53 years, they had a 6-year courtship before their wedding, so celebrated 59 years of sharing and doing life together. Her love for her children and grandchildren was so deep and they will always be touched by her great sense of humor, her love to laugh, her beautiful smile and such a positive outlook on life and love. Alma is now at rest from the storms of this life, and the legacy of her spirit and character will be passed on to each of her family members and friends.
A celebration of Alma’s life will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion, 33 Avenue N.E., McLennan Alberta on Sunday, May 11, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. where we invite all who loved her to gather and honor her legacy.
A Wake will also be held for Alma on Saturday, May 10 and will also be at the McLennan Legion.
