Obituary of Allen Ainsley David Burkett
Allen Burkett, 76, of Ottawa, passed away on January 13th after a long illness.
Allen was born on January 30th, 1948, to Lloyd and Eva Burkett (née Cox) on Manitoulin Island. Allen spent much of his youth moving around the country with his family for his father’s work, with notable years in both Ajax, ON, and Vancouver, BC, before venturing out on his own and making his home in the Ottawa region. Allen spent many years working in the furniture industry, including managing Pinecraft Ltd. in Almonte, ON, and his own franchise of House of Brougham in Ottawa. Finally, Allen spent 12 years with Otis Canada.
Allen was predeceased by his parents Lloyd and Eva Burkett, as well as his brothers in law George Venta and Wally Gardner. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Lydia Burkett (née Glaser), his children Dan (Donna) and Alaina (Brandon), his beloved grandchildren William and Ella, his siblings Lloyd Burkett (Barb), Linda Gardner (Don), Bev Roche (Jim), and Kathy Latulippe (Denis), and his sisters in law Hana Venta, Peppi Glaser (Pierre), and Liz Pederson (Lloyd), as well as many nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Cole’s Funeral Services at 2500 Baseline Road, Nepean on Saturday February 8th from 25pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Canadian Lung Association or the Queensway Carleton Hospital Foundation. The family would like to express their deep gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and respiratory therapists at the QCH ICU for their exceptional care during Allen’s stay. The family would also like to thank the wonderful staff at Valley Stream Retirement Residence for their warm and supportive care over the last two years.
