Obituary of Allan Reginald MacDonald
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Allan R MacDonald, 81, of Harbour Centre, on September 6, 2025 in St. Martha’s Regional Hospital.
He was the youngest son of the late Daniel Angus (Danny the piper) and Sarah Janet (Wallace) MacDonald.
Born in Antigonish on June 21, 1944, Dad lived a life rooted in kindness, humility, faith, and deep devotion to those he loved. Whether it was sharing stories of his childhood growing up in Lakevale, lending a helping hand with friends and family, or simply offering his quick wit and a warm smile, he had a way of making a personal connection with everyone he met.
A devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, he was the cornerstone of our family and was an example of quiet strength, courage and unwavering love. His greatest joy came from being surrounded by family. He was never happier than when his home was filled with music, laughter, the smell of a home-cooked meal, and the chatter of grandchildren playing. He taught us the meaning of loyalty, the importance of hard work, and the beauty of a life well lived.
Allan spent his early 20’s in Boston and Toronto where he married his high school sweetheart, Theresa, and began their family with twins. They later moved back to Nova Scotia and settled in Heatherton, where they added three more boys. He worked at Stora in Port Hawkesbury for almost thirty years.
Dad loved staying active and being outdoors. He enjoyed planting a garden and watching it grow, cutting wood for the fire, going for walks and bowling. He was a big supporter of his children’s activities and, later, his grandchildren’s. He enjoyed watching sports on TV, especially hockey and baseball and cheered for the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Blue Jays. He also enjoyed listening to music, especially the bagpipes and the fiddle. After retirement, Mom and Dad enjoyed trips out west and to the north to visit and spend time with their children and grandchildren.
Allan is survived by his wife of 59 years Theresa (Fraser), his children Terry, Heather, Brian (Tanya), Dwayne (Skylan), and Darryl (Heather). His grandchildren Ginger, Seamus, Brae, Isla, Cooper, Quaye, Cale, Mae, Mairi, and Andrew. We will miss him terribly and carry on his legacy of love, generosity, and quiet wisdom.
He is also survived by his sisters, Margaret (late Calvin) Campbell, Catherine (late Bob) Steele, Bernadette (late Bill) Simpson, and Theresa (Ray) Sanderson; brothers Elmer (Joan), Angus (late Anne K), and Eugene. Also survived by sister-in-law Carmel MacDonald, Paula (late Jack) Smith, Margie (Vince) Grace and brother-in-law Ron (Sheila) Fraser and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers Donnie (late Kathleen), Francis, Wally, and Sylvester (late Loretta Fields), sister Christina (in infancy), sister-in-law Gen (late Bernie) Richardson and brother-in-law Jim Fraser.
Visitation will be held from 2:00-4:00 and 7:00-9:00 pm on Wednesday, September 10th in MacIsaac Funeral Home, 61 Pleasant St., Antgionish. Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 am on September 11, 2025, in St. Ninian Cathedral with burial in St. Columba Cemetery, Lakevale.
Allan and family would like to thank the caring and compassionate staff of the Oncology department, the PCU and the Palliative Care Unit at St. Martha’s. He also wanted to give special thanks to Dr. McGlashan, Dr. MacInnes, Dr. Howard, and Dr. Gallant for the professional care he received.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the charity of your choice.
