Allan’s Obituary
In the early morning hours of April 21st, 2025, Allan Franklin Edgar left this earthly place. He was in his 95th year. Allan will be missed by his long-time friend Marcia Cuthbert of Toronto; brother Harold; niece Lisa (Bruce) Carrow of New York State; nephews John (Marsha) Edgar, Ken (Jennifer) Edgar, and John Gracey of Barrie; and many great nieces and nephews. Allan is predeceased by his parents, John and Fern Edgar, his sister and brother-in-law, Irene and Frank Gracey, and sister-in-law, Mary Ellen Edgar (nee Greenwood).
Allan graduated from Brantford Collegiate Institute before dedicating his livelihood to farming. A long-time resident of Paris, he grew up on the family farm just south of town and farmed alongside his brother for his entire career. He lived at Telfer Place for the last seven years. Allan grew up attending Bethel Stone United Church, where he sang in the choir, before becoming a lifelong member of the Paris Presbyterian Church, where he continued to enjoy singing and performing solos with the choir. Allan had a beautiful tenor voice and was a long-time member of the Brant Men of Song. Allan’s love of music was obvious to anyone who knew him. He always carried his harmonica with him wherever he went and was often playing it for the many friends at Telfer Place, especially at the church service where he also sang solos. He enjoyed calling square dances, and performing at several jamborees across Ontario and at the Brant Open Stage held at the Best Western in Brantford.
During his life-long farming career, Allan was a member of several agricultural associations, having been president of both the Brant County Soil and Crop Association, and the Brant County Ploughmen’s Association. Allan found joy in travelling near and far, having driven across Canada from British Columbia to Newfoundland as well as trips to the British Isles, Australia, and New Zealand. Road trips were always a delight, but they were truly unforgettable when music took centre stage.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the Telfer Place staff for their wonderful care over the years. They became a part of his extended family, and we are grateful for their loving care.
As the season of Spring begins again, we remember Allan’s unwavering passion for the land and the music that filled his heart.
Friends will be welcomed at the Dwayne D. Budgell Funeral Home, 1105 Rest Acres Road, Paris, Ontario, on Friday May 9, 2025 from 11 am to 1 pm. A Memorial Service will be held at 1 pm in the Funeral Home Chapel. Pastor Joel Sherbino will officiate. In Allan’s memory, donations to either the Paris Presbyterian Church or The Raw Carrot would be appreciated by the family.
