February 25, 2025
Allan
“Al” Phillip Sipley, 84, of Berwick, passed away on
Tuesday, February 25, 2025 in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville with
family by his side. He was born and raised in Elkhorn, Manitoba, and
was the youngest son of Joseph and Eleanor (Mills)
Sipley.
Al worked hard all of
his life. In his younger years he enrolled with the RCMP and was
stationed in Chester, Nova Scotia. He returned to Manitoba and
operated an Esso Fuel Company in Elkhorn, Manitoba and then another in
Birtle, Manitoba. He moved to Nova Scotia with his family in 1974 with
plans to take over Seamone’s Bakery in Liverpool, NS. Later
he worked for Michelin in Bridgewater and then transferred to the new
Michelin plant in Cambridge, Kings Co., NS in 1982. Al retired from
Michelin in 1996. He then worked as a process server starting with
Waterbury Newton and then expanding to several other law
firms.
Al had a great love
for his family. With a special place in his heart for his
grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He would light up when he saw
them, and they brought so much joy to his life. He loved their hugs
and cherished chatting with them. He especially loved family
gatherings!! When he was able, he loved to cook homemade Chinese food
dishes for his family.
Al had special
connections with animals and formed bonds with them easily. He sorely
missed having a pet when he moved into assisted living. He enjoyed
reading and gardening (and was especially proud of his 300 plus
daffodils and his annual vegetable garden), having an outdoor fish
pond in which he grew beautiful water lilies, watching the birds, and
attending live theatre.
He loved playing cards
with his friends and enjoyed the fellowship of others. He even bought
a brand new, fully loaded mini van so he was able to take his friends
to the card games. He loved watching sports, especially the Toronto
Blue Jays, the Winnipeg Jets and any curling game he could find. He
served in the Liverpool Lions Club and had fond memories of the many
events and social times.
Al is survived by his
beloved daughters, Aneta (Randall) Prime of Coldbrook, and Angela
(Gerrit) Whitney of Halls Harbour; four precious grandchildren, Nicole
(Steve Whynot) of Falmouth, Morgan (Devin Everett) of Halls Harbour,
Ryan (Jenn Comeau) of Coldbrook and Brandon (Mikaela Whitney) of Halls
Harbour; his very special great-grandchildren, Maia, Lachlan and
Sawyer Whynot; Ada Everett; Lilah and Juniper Prime; and Westley,
Charlotte and Adeline Whitney; brother and sister-in-law, Lindsay and
Pat Sipley of Warman, Saskatchewan; and former wife and mother of his
children, Marion Seamone of Centreville; as well as many nieces and
nephews.
He was predeceased by
his parents, Joseph and Eleanor Sipley; sister and brother-in-law,
Aileen and Lynn Farough; brothers and sisters-in-law, Harold and
Vivian Sipley; and Lorne and Ilene Sipley; as well as nephews, Keith
Sipley and Daryl Sipley. In later years he enjoyed the companionship
of his dear friend and travel companion, the late Sadie
Weir.
The family would like
to extend their sincere thanks of appreciation to the doctors, nurses,
staff and volunteers of the Valley Regional Hospital, with special
mention to Mia, Gabby and Dr. Suiter for their professionalism,
exceptional kindness and compassion.
Cremation has taken
place. A Celebration of Life gathering will be held in the White
Family Funeral Home, Kentville on Tuesday, March 4, from 6:00 to 8:00
p.m. with a special sharing of memories at 7:00 p.m., which will also
be available via livestream. Interment will take place in Elkhorn
Cemetery, Manitoba, at a later date.
Donations in memory
may be made to the IWK Health Centre Foundation, Valley Regional
Hospital Foundation or a charity of choice. Funeral arrangements have
been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation
Services, Kentville.
We love you Dad,
