Allan “Al” Pallister Obituary
Al Pallister
March 22, 1937 – March 10, 2025
Allan Phillip Pallister, age 87, passed away on March 10 at his home in Okotoks.
Born on March 22, 1937, in Calgary, Al was the thirteenth and last child of Guy and Evelyn (née Metchett). He grew up at the Bradfield Ranch and in Turner Valley, and later lived in Victoria, Red Deer, and Calgary, where built a happy, thriving home with his wife Dianne (née Minue, who predeceased him in 2019) and his children, Catherine Keenan and William Pallister. In retirement he and his beloved Dianne moved to Turner Valley, where they grew up together and which they always felt to be their true home.
Al is survived by Catherine and William, as well as his son-in-law, Peter Keenan, his grandsons Michael and James, and his adored friend at the Heartland Retirement Home in Okotoks, Dolores Callies-Parkhill.
Fleet of foot as a young man, fit and trim always, Al maintained a life-long love of curling and golf, being a longstanding member of the Turner Valley Golf Club and the Oilfields Curling Club. He was adept at carpentry and woodworking and later took up – with greater success than he realized – oil painting. He looked forward every spring to planting gardens and window boxes bursting with colour and variety, and he cut fresh sweetpeas every night for Dianne for as long as they stayed in bloom. He dressed beautifully, mixed a bracingly mean Caesar, and enjoyed being out on his sundeck, shirt off, to grill steaks or burgers for whoever happened to be around.
His surviving family will cherish many fond memories of an extraordinarily loving and affectionate father, father-in-law, and grandfather. His departed wife will cherish his company once more.
We commit Al’s spirit to the High Country of his birth and death. At his wish there will be no service of remembrance.
In memory of Al, for those who wish, donations can be made to the Oilfields Food Bank or Heaven Can Wait Animal Rescue.
Al’s family wishes to thank all the staff at the Heartland Retirement Home for creating a friendly and enjoyable environment during his time there, with special gratitude to the incredible care team for making his last days as comfortable as possible. They also thank Snodgrass Funeral Homes in Okotoks for their compassionate and professional service.
