It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Alan Downer, who died peacefully with his family by his side at the age of 82.
Alan is survived by his dear brother Ian (Ursula) of Hamilton. He is predeceased by his parents, Madge (2007) and Arthur (Nip) (2007) Downer, his beloved sister Jan (2018), and his cherished son, Andrew (Drew) (2007).
Alan was a loving husband, married to his best friend Nancy for 58 years. Together, they built a life full of love, laughter, and companionship. Alan was a devoted father to Wendy MacInnis (John), and he took immense pride in his role as a grandfather. In recent years, his greatest joy was watching his granddaughters, Katelyn and Kamryn, play hockey and soccer, cheering them on with the same enthusiasm he once had for his own children’s sports.
He also enjoyed supporting the Brydges Bulldogs Junior C hockey team, where he was their #1 fan and supporter for several years.
Alan’s life was defined by his deep love for his family and his unwavering support for those he cared about. He will be missed by many extended family members, friends, neighbours, and colleagues who were fortunate to know his kindness, sense of humour, quiet demeanor, and warm spirit. Alan was also a special “Grandpa D” to Riley, Dallas, and Bryce and will be fondly remembered by Linda and Brett Boden and their families.
A man of few words, Alan’s presence spoke volumes. He will always be remembered for the love he gave and the lives he touched.
The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to the doctors and nurses at Alexandra Hospital in Ingersoll for their exceptional care of Alan.
A celebration of Alan’s life will be held at the Byron/Springbank Legion Branch 533, 1276 Commissioners Rd. W, London, ON N6K 1E1 on January 12, 2025 from 2:00–5:00 pm, with words of remembrance at 4:00 pm. Cremation has taken place and a private family internment will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers those wishing to make a donation in memory of Alan are asked to consider the Mount Brydges Junior C Bulldogs, 610 Lion’s Park Drive, Mt. Brydges, Ontario, N0L1A0.
