Adolfo Cruz Obituary
In Loving Memory of Adolfo “Boying” Manahan Cruz Jr.
May 26, 1952 – February 14, 2025
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Adolfo Manahan Cruz Jr., lovingly known as “Boying,” on February 14, 2025, at the University of Alberta Hospital in Edmonton, Alberta. He was 72 years old.
Born on May 26, 1952, in Paco, Manila, Adolfo built a life filled with hard work, dedication, and love. He earned his education in civil engineering, a field in which he built a meaningful career, and in pursuit of a brighter future, he immigrated to Canada on August 22, 1993. Throughout his life, he remained deeply committed to his family, always striving to provide and care for those he loved.
Beyond his work, Adolfo found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He loved dancing and singing karaoke, filling every gathering with music and laughter. He was an avid sports fan, cheering passionately for the Toronto Blue Jays, as well as enjoying hockey and basketball. His love for horse racing, playing the lottery with his siblings, biking around town, and playing poker with his brothers and nephews brought him great joy. He cherished his coffees with friends and quiet evenings watching his favorite shows with his beloved wife.
Adolfo’s loyalty to his family was unshakable. He was a devoted husband, a dedicated father, loyal brother, caring uncle and a loving grandfather. His presence was a source of strength, his laughter infectious, and his unwavering work ethic an inspiration to all who knew him. His playful spirit and boundless generosity left a lasting impact on everyone in his life.
He is survived by his loving wife, Eva Nilda Cruz; his children: Aden Cruz (Marcus Liu), Cherrie Lou Swann (Jason Swann, grandchildren: Balen Swann, Ronin Swann), and Adolfo Cruz III (Maria Valerie Cruz). He will also be deeply missed by a large extended family and countless friends who held him dear.
Adolfo now reunites in eternal peace with his parents, Adolfo Cruz and Prudencia Manahan Cruz, as well as his siblings, Tranquilino Cruz, Arsenia Cartagena, Remedios Veloso, and Manuel Cruz.
A faithful Roman Catholic, Adolfo carried his faith with him throughout his life, guiding his actions with love, kindness, and a deep sense of duty.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has shown kindness and support throughout Adolfo’s battle with cancer. Your love and presence mean more than words can express.
