Born May 1, 1946, in Macklin, Saskatchewan, Vince grew up on the family farm, where he developed a strong work ethic and a commitment to community. Vince will be remembered for his dedication to everything he did and his passion for living life to the fullest, cherishing moments of celebration with family and friends.
As a devoted educator, Vince found his calling in shaping young minds. Beginning his career as a teacher in Camrose, he later taught in Red Deer, becoming principal of St. Martin’s and Maryview schools. Over a remarkable 35-year career, he inspired countless students, leaving a legacy of kindness and leadership.
Vince enjoyed sports, playing ice hockey, touch football, and golf. In early retirement, he and Mary traveled, including years as snowbirds in Arizona. In 2019, they moved to Lethbridge to be near their daughter Sheree and her family.
Vince is survived by his loving wife, Mary; son, Trevor (Giovana); daughter, Sheree (Roberto); grandchildren, Julia, Karsyn, Roberto, and Taya; and sister, Gloria Mercier, along with nieces Lisa Mercier-Goodwin, Michelle Cormier, and their families. He was predeceased by his parents, Jacob and Amalia Ackerman.
A private family Memorial Mass will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Alzheimer Society of Alberta and Northwest Territories (alzheimer.ca/ab/en)
