It is with profound sadness and cherished memories that we share the passing of Robert Leo Pottie, . Affectionately known as Bobby to family and friends. On September 26th, he peacefully departed this world, surrounded by Arlene and the compassionate care of the palliative care team at St. Martha’s Hospital in Antigonish.
Born on October 11th, 1958, Robert was the first child and son of Leo and Beth Pottie (Wincey) of L’Ardoise, As a youngster, Robert’s infectious enthusiasm and energy drew him to various sports, particularly hockey and hunting, which taught him valuable lessons about teamwork, perseverance, and the beauty of the great outdoors. His love for nature only grew stronger with time, and he found solace in the crisp autumn air, the kaleidoscope of colors as the leaves changed, and the sense of wonder that each new season brought
Robert’s passion for reading, instilled in him by his grandmother, opened doors to new worlds, broadened his perspectives, and nurtured his curiosity. After graduating from vocational school in Westmont, Robert embarked on a fulfilling career with Loblaws, starting as a back-shift baker at the No Frills store in Port Hawkesbury in 1987. His dedication and hard work earned him the position of bakery manager, and he later became the manager of the production center in Sydney River, providing fresh baked goods to stores across Cape Breton Island and Antigonish
In 2019, Robert and Arlene returned to his childhood home in L’Ardoise, where he cherished memories of his upbringing, his siblings, and the invaluable life lessons taught by his parents. He is survived by his devoted partner, Arlene Usher, who stood by his side as his best friend, fiancée, and caregiver for 10 years. He touched the lives of his
Siblings through guidance, laughter, and tears, Sisters Nancy (Sandy), Jeanette (Bernie), and Sylvia (Malcolm); his brothers, Tony, Gregory (Elona), and Blair (Vicky); his goddaughter/niece, Amanda Carew; and numerous neces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins who shared in the joy and laughter of their extended family gatherings.
Though he was predeceased by his parents, grandparents, and brother Paul, Robert’s spirit remains, inspiring us to live life to the fullest, to cherish every moment, and to never forget the beauty and wonder that surrounds us. In keeping with Robert’s wishes, there will be no formal service; however, a celebration of his life and birthday will take place at his home 1708 Hwy 247 L,’Ardoise on October 11th from 2 pm to 4 pm.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the Richmond County Home Care nurses and staff, the Strait Richmond Hospital, the palliative care team at St. Martha’s Hospital, and Dr. Glenn Worth for their exceptional care and compassion.
As we bid farewell to Bobby our prayers are that he is finally at peace reunited with his family members and his fur baby and steadfast companion, Puppins.
Arrangements are under the care of Green’s Funeral Home, Port Hawkesbury.
