It is with profound sorrow that we share the peaceful passing of Peter Mijatovic (Sr.) on Tuesday, August 19th, 2025 at St. Joseph’s Lifecare Centre in Brantford, just a week before his 91st birthday. Peter was the cherished husband, partner and best friend of Barbara (nee Scroggie) for over 40 years. Proud father of Barbara, Peter Jr. (2017), Anthony, and Linda. Loving grandpa of 7 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Peter will be fondly remembered by his nieces, nephews, and other relatives in Croatia, Germany and Australia. After immigrating to Canada in 1958, Peter worked as a butcher in Toronto until he learned to speak English and later found work at Dofasco. In 1982 he retired, met and married Barbie and the family farm has been operating ever since. We will miss Peter’s famous birthday barbeques, his willingness to help anyone in need and his cheerful demeanor. Visitation will take place at Beckett-Glaves Family Funeral Centre, 88 Brant Ave., on Wednesday, August 27th from 10am to 11am. A private graveside service will follow at St. George Cemetery. Following the burial, friends are invited to a celebration of life for Peter from 1pm to 3pm at the Troy Community Hall, 2205 Old Troy Rd. (off Hwy 5 W.). A huge thank you to our incredible friends and neighbors who, over the last year, have been so supportive and helpful. And to the caring, compassionate Pine Trail staff at St. Joseph’s Lifecare Centre for doing the best they could for Peter. In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Joseph’s Lifecare Centre or the Alzheimer Society would be appreciated.
