Gordon Lalonde Obituary
Gordon Lalonde (1936 – 2025)
It is with deep sadness and enduring love that the family of Gordon H. Lalonde announces his passing on September 27, 2025, at Extendicare Countryside in Sudbury, Ontario, surrounded by the love of his family. Born on June 16, 1936, in Cornwall, Ontario, Gord lived a life filled with creativity, hard work and an unwavering love for nature and family. He is lovingly remembered and survived by his four daughters, Michelle, Debra (Peter), Nicole and Christine, who were the light of his life. He will be dearly missed by his grandchildren, Kandace, Robyn (Chris), Spencer, Amanda, Matthew, Sarah (Alain), Megan, Branden, Stephanie, Tristan and Gage, as well as his great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, whose lives he touched with warmth and wisdom. He is also survived by his siblings Ronald, Susan and Cheryl, and his sister-in-law Betty Lalonde, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Gordon and Mabel Lalonde, his siblings Vincent, David, Rolland, Barbara and Phyllis, and his beloved grandson, Justin Barriault.
Gord was, first and foremost, a passionate and gifted wildlife artist. Painting was not just something he did, it was a deep part of who he was. Over the years, he created countless wildlife scenes that captured the beauty and spirit of the outdoors he so deeply loved. His artwork was shared with family, gifted to others, sold or displayed in local camps, cottages, homes and businesses throughout the region, as well as presented as safety awards during his time at INCO’s Creighton Mine. His love for the outdoors, hunting, fishing and observing wildlife, was not only his inspiration for painting, but his sanctuary. Whether in the bush or by the water, Gord felt most at home surrounded by the natural world. He was always happy to share his stories, knowledge, and appreciation for nature with anyone who would listen.
Gord’s love for his family was steady and deep. His daughters were his pride and joy, and his presence in their lives will be missed dearly. A hard-working man through and through, he dedicated many years of service at INCO (North and Creighton Mine), and even after retirement, continued to work part-time, including 20 years at the Markstay-Warren Landfill. There, and everywhere he went, he was known as a friendly face who enjoyed a good chat or debate, especially about hunting, archery, sports or politics. At home, he could often be found with a book in his hand or a crossword puzzle in front of him. He loved words, and his passion for language showed in the poetry he wrote, which reflected his gentle spirit and thoughtful view of the world.
The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to the staff at Extendicare Countryside for their kindness, compassion and the heartfelt care they provided during his final days. Many staff members expressed how much his presence meant to them, and their sincerity brought great comfort to the family.
A Memorial Service to celebrate Gord’s life will be held on Sunday, October 5th, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, at Simple Wishes of the North, 1106 The Kingsway, Sudbury. Family and friends are welcome to attend and share memories.
