ARMOUR, James Andrew Douglas “Jamie”, QC
of Ellershouse, Hants Co., passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, in Dykeland Lodge, Windsor, at the age of 82. Born in Sydney, on March 15, 1943, to the late Douglas and Elizabeth (McCurdy) Armour, Jamie spent most of his youth in Oakville, Ontario, before returning home to Nova Scotia, where he built both a family and a remarkable career.
Jamie is lovingly remembered by his children, Dougal, Ian (Kieran Bryk), Duncan and Gail (Zach Henderson) Armour; grandson, Rowan; former wife, Karen Armour; sisters, Jane Kucey, Suzanne Cove, Katherine Elizabeth Belford and Vikki Fuller. His cheerful and welcoming attitude will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
A respected and pioneering lawyer, Jamie practiced law in Windsor, where he became the first defence lawyer in Canada to successfully use entrapment as a legal defence. Beyond the courtroom, Jamie had a deep love for the outdoors. He spent countless hours hunting, fishing and training dogs and in 1988, proudly won the U.S. National Springer Championship.
Jamie lived a life of adventure, collecting more stories than could ever be written. He hitchhiked across North America, sailed around the world and had more than his fair share of close calls, often saying later in life that he was amazed he’d survived his teenage years. Despite the risks and misadventures, Jamie made it clear that he carried no regrets. In his final days, he was at peace with life and felt at rest. He was deeply loved and will be deeply missed.
The family would like to pass on warm thanks and appreciation to Dykeland Lodge for providing his final year of care.
Arrangements for cremation have been entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317), where a funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, September 10 in the funeral home chapel, Archdeacon Tom Henderson officiating. Donations in memory of Jamie may be made to the Atlantic Salmon Federation, PO Box 5200, St. Andrews, NB E5B 3S8 (1-800-565-5666).
