Allan Sumners
December 21 st , 1942- September 8 th , 2025
Allan Sumners, 82 of Thunder Bay, Ontario passed away peacefully surrounded by family. Allan
was a truck driver for many years driving for Motorways, then with GNC Arpin which was
contracted to Maritime then retired with PMT trucking.
Allan was proud to obtain the second highest degree in the Moose Order of Fellow. During that
time, he was chairman of the family night meat bingos as well as bartending. Allan held almost
every position with the Lodge #947 including Chaplain, President and past president.
Allan was an Associate member of Port Arthur Branch #5 legion since 2013 and loved to
volunteer for the bingo as well as the fish fry fundraiser.
Allan volunteered at a lot of events such as the firefighters 10-mile road race with the United
Commercial Travellers.
Allan was an avid curler with the go-slow curling at Port Arthur Curling Club.
Allan is survived by his loving wife of 58 years Linda, siblings Lillian (Frank), Kenny, Willy and
Darlene as well as many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces
and nephews. Brother-in-law Jim (Annie) Sawchuk. Allan is predeceased by his father Harold
Sumners (Rose), Mother Lillie Torkkeli (Leo), sister Wilma Morrow, Brother Lyle Sumners and
sister-in-law Marcy Sumners. Grandparents Anna and Matti Kaartinen. Mother and father-in-
law Ann and Michael Sawchuk.
Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of life will be held at Port Arthur Branch #5 Legion
229 Van Norman Street on Monday September 22 nd , 2025, from 1:00-4:00pm with the service at
1:30pm. Interment at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
The family sends special thanks to the staff at TBRHSC and to St. Joseph’s Hospital Hospice
4N for their care and compassion. We appreciate all of you. In lieu of flowers donations can be
made to the Regional Cancer Care Northwest or St. Joseph’s Foundation of Thunder Bay
Hospice and Palliative Care.
The family would like to thank Audrey McDonagh for all your help and support to the family.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Simpler Times Cremation Centre, 575 Central Avenue, Thunder Bay.
