Margaret ‘Margie’ Ann Geddes
August 7, 1946 ~ September 2, 2025
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Margaret (Margie) Ann Geddes, who left us peacefully, surrounded by family, at Eastern Memorial Hospital in Canso after a brief illness. She was 79.
Born in Canso, Mom was the daughter of the late Cecil and Rose Cohoon. She was the devoted wife of the late Bob Geddes of Florence, with whom she shared 49 loving years of marriage.
Mom was the youngest of 17 siblings and was predeceased by her brothers David, Eddie, Bob, Tiny, Jim, Doug, Bud, and Jack, and her sisters Lucina, Sadie, Florence, Mary, Marnie, Pat, and Rita. She is survived by her loyal and loving sister, Carmie, and sister-in-laws Betty and Phyllis, and brother-in-law, Fred.
She will be dearly missed by her children: Jim, Pat, Mike (Sheri), Kim (Mike), and Kelly (Alex), and lovingly remembered by her grandchildren—her pride and joy—Matt (Tara), Brendan (Breanna), and Bobby.
Mom began her working life as a teacher in Little Dover before working as a telephone operator in Canso. She spent the majority of her career with National Sea Products in Canso, where she was known as a dedicated and hard-working colleague.
A cherished member of the Canso community, Mom was well-known for her incredible baking—especially her famous fudge, which drew a steady crowd on Halloween. She enjoyed card games with her long-time card partner Colleen, Sunday brunches at The Last Port after church, bingos, and her scratch tickets.
Above all, Mom was known for her warmth and generosity. She and Dad always made sure there was room for one more at the table, and their home was a place of welcome and comfort for many.
Mom’s memory will be deeply treasured by all who knew and loved her.
A funeral Mass to celebrate Mom’s life will be held on Monday, September 8th at 11:00 a.m. at Star of the Sea Church, Canso. A reception will follow at The Shamrock Club.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Star of the Sea Church, a place that held special meaning in Mom’s life.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the doctors and nurses for their compassionate care, with special appreciation to the nurses at Eastern Memorial Hospital for their kindness and support during Mom’s final days.
