Alan Norman Woodland
Son of Sidney and Gladys Woodland. Born Canterbury, England, 4 May 1931. Died peacefully on 27 June 2025. Educated Chatham House County Grammar School, Ramsgate. Library Assistant, Ramsgate Public Library, where he met his future wife, Pat Scoones.
National Service and Territorial Army, rank of Lieutenant. Came to Canada and Haney BC 1957
Librarian, Haney Correctional Institution. Married Pat Scoones, November 1957. Married 68 years.
Head of Reference/Chief Librarian, New Westminster Public Library 1961-1991.
Father to Tim, Andy, Sarah and David. Grandfather to Amanda, Christopher and Kevin. Survived by sister Pauline of Ontario and brother Noel of Isle of Man.
Volunteered with Maple Ridge Art Gallery, Maple Ridge Music Society, Maple Ridge Historical Society; and Maple Ridge Hospice Society as Chair.
Wrote a regular column Here and There in the Maple Ridge Pitt Meadows Times for 16 years. Published three New Westminster history books, and two books of poetry.
With harpist Lori Pappajohn, in 1993, founded Winter Harp, a program of words and music to celebrate the Christmas Season, which, in 2025, is still playing annually to sold-out audiences.
There will be no public service.
Patricia Adele Woodland (Scoones)
Daughter of Clifford and Grace Scoones. Born London, England, 15 April, 1934. Died peacefully on 27 June 2025.
Educated Clarendon House County Grammar School, Ramsgate.Trained and worked in X-ray at the Royal London Hospital, Whitechapel. Volunteered at the Ramsgate Public library, where she met her future husband, Alan Woodland
Came to Canada in 1956, Haney BC in 1957. Married Alan Woodland 1957. Married 68 years
Joined the staff at Maple Ridge Hospital in 1958 as an X-ray technician
Mother to Tim, Andy, Sarah and David. Grandmother to Amanda, Christopher and Kevin
Survived by brother Colin (Jean) of England
Volunteered with the Maple Ridge Art Gallery, Maple Ridge Music Society, Maple Ridge Historical Society, Maple Ridge Hospice Society and Maple Ridge Elementary School.
There will be no public service.
