Karen Dumelie
With deep sorrow and immeasurable love, we announce the peacefully passing of Karen Dumelie on Tuesday April 29, 2025 at the age of 84, cherished wife, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and family matriarch.
Born in Kewanee, Illinois and raised in Tucson, Arizona, Karen’s beauty and vibrant spirit shone early—as a model and Tucson Rodeo Queen. She married the love of her life, Larry, and together they spent 61 wonderful years raising five children on their family farm.
Karen was very proud of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren (6). Michele and children Briana, Michel, Kali, Alexis, Karen & Kyle; Bob (Rebecca) and children Rachel, Cole, Rylie & Marley; Sherrie and children Aaron & Kara; Doug (Shirley) and children Mateo, Solana, Augustino & Romero; Jim (Phebe) and children Taylor, Ryan, Lincoln & Trygg. Karen was the only child of the late Maynard and Neva Mitton.
She was a loving and caring mother, known for her strength, resilience, and unwavering determination. A hardworking, selfless, and devoted mother. Karen always put her husband and her kids ahead of her needs. She was always there for others with her no-nonsense unselfish attitude, yet compassionate nature and was the life of the party.
Karen was the heart and soul of every family gathering. She lit up the room with her warmth, wit, laughter and that unmistakable spark of competitive fire and love of games which she played to win.
She tackled every challenge with courage, with humour and instilled in her children the values of hard work, dedication, and selfless attitude. She was tough when she needed to be, tender when it counted, and endlessly supportive and resilient. Anyone who knew Karen, were touched by her kindness, humor, and strength.
Karen fought to the end and now she is on to the next journey that awaits her.
Rest peacefully, Mom. You were our foundation, our inspiration, and our home. We will miss you dearly, will honor your legacy, and carry your memory with us always.
The family thanks the Ottawa Civic Hospital, Kemptville District Hospital, the Beth Donovan and Ruddy-Shenkman Hospices.
