Obituary of Gregory Connolley
It is with profound shock and sadness that we announce the passing of Gregory Charles Connolley, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and dedicated public servant.
Greg passed away peacefully on April 2, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
Greg started his policing career with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. Greg then proudly served with the Ontario Provincial Police for 28 years, rising to the rank of Inspector. During his distinguished career, he was known for his unwavering integrity, compassion, and commitment to justice. In his later years of service, he brought these same values to his role as an Adjudicator (Hearing Officer), where his fairness and wisdom were deeply respected by his peers and community alike.
Throughout his career, Greg’s outstanding contributions were recognized with several awards, including the Ontario Provincial Police Long Service and Good Conduct Medal, the Governor General’s Police Exemplary Service Medal, and the Government of Ontario Amethyst Award—a testament to his exemplary dedication to public service and community safety.
Following his retirement from the OPP, Greg worked as an Adjudicator for various police services across the province. Greg also continued to share his wealth of knowledge and experience as an Instructor in the Police Foundations Program at Fleming College in Peterborough. He was a natural mentor who took great pride in helping to shape the next generation of law enforcement professionals.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Greg was deeply committed to serving his community through extensive volunteer work. He was a Member of the Board of Directors of the Peterborough Regional Health Centre, the Peterborough Regional Health Centre Foundation, and also served as a Provincial Appointee to the Board of Health for the Peterborough County – City Health Unit. Greg also gave generously of his time to the United Way and Scouts Canada, and was a dedicated coach for youth hockey and soccer teams. Greg believed strongly in giving back and made a lasting impact through his leadership and mentorship. Greg also loved his daily jogs and, later in life, his daily walks exploring the community. In his earlier years, Greg achieved his personal goal of completing many marathons.
Greg was deeply devoted to his wife, Judith, and was a cherished father to Amanda (Mo) and Greg (Kelly). His greatest joy in recent years was being a grandfather to Sean and Evelyn, with whom he shared many treasured moments. Greg also leaves behind his loving sisters, Anne and Martha, extended family, and cherished friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Gregory Connolley and Norah Connolley-MacDougall.
Greg was a man of great warmth and kindness. Greg’s ethical character, gentle and calm demeanor, and loving presence left an indelible mark on all who knew him.
His life was one of service, humility, and love—a legacy that will continue to inspire all who had the privilege to know him.
He will be forever missed and always remembered.
