Obituary
It is with great sadness that the family of the late Cheryl Matthews announces her passing at the James Paton Memorial Hospital, Gander, NL, on Saturday, March 29, 2025 at the age of 44 years.
Cheryl leaves to mourn her parents – Gerald & Leonie Matthews (Harbour Round); sisters – Sherrie Matthews (Harbour Round), Amanda Matthews (La Scie); niece – Emma Dyer (Colby Tulk) (Carmanville); foster parents – Karl & Brenda Langdon & family (Seal Cove, Fortune Bay); also a large circle of aunts, uncles & cousins.
Predeceased by grandparents – Lawrence & Nora Matthews, Anthony & Elizabeth Jones; brother – Adam Matthews; brother-in-law – Bradley Dyer.
Cheryl was a very special girl since she came into this world. She was born with severe Cerebral Palsy, which incapacitated her for all her life. She was well loved and cared for by her family, but it became difficult to keep up. At the age of 4 years her parents could no longer give her the care and attention that she needed so they had no choice but to place her with a foster family that could give her a good home and proper care. Cheryl had 2 foster families over the years, The Oxford’s in Springdale, NL, and The Langdon’s in Seal Cove, Fortune Bay, NL. Both families loved her dearly and gave her a good home for which her birth family are very grateful for. Cheryl was well loved by everyone who knew her and now she is free of pain and discomfort and in the arms of many loved ones that passed before her.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Sunset Memorial Funeral Home, 22 Main Street, Baie Verte, NL.
