(Jaroslaw) Syl Cyba Obituary
(Jaroslaw) Syl Cyba
September 25, 1928 – February 20, 2025 (Age: 96)
It is with great sadness that our family announces Dad’s passing.
Syl is survived by his brother, Ron; daughters, Pamela (Alan) Lavoie & Melinda (Stephen) Cyba-Ambrose; nephew, Dennis (Val) Pryma, as well as his grandchildren & great-grandchildren. He will also be missed by many extended family members & lifelong friends.
Predeceased by his wife, Pearl; parents, Joseph & Helen; sister & brother-in-law, Mary & Steve Pryma; sister-in-law, Peggy; nephew, Trevor.
Dad set out at age 14 to find work across the country to help support the family. His career away began by working on farms in north-east SK. His employment ranged from lumber camps in BC & ON, a fish cannery in Steveston, BC & the Massey Harris combine plant in Toronto.
While away, his Mother sent word for him to return home to take over the family farm. Once home & resetting his farm roots he continued to support farm life with working for the RM of Redberry as a grader operator.
After meeting the love of his life, Pearl, together they built their home & landscaped their “prairie paradise” where they shared their love of the land with their daughters.
Mom & Dad took great pride in their vegetable gardens, flowers, fruit trees & farmyard all being tended to over countless hours with the utmost love & care. Compliments on their hard work & beauty of their yard were greatly appreciated & held close to their hearts.
Dad was very proud of his Ukrainian heritage. Dad & Mom were always there supporting the girls in all their activities from sports to Ukrainian Dancing. With camera always in hand, he made sure everything was captured for family & friends.
Both Dad & Mom had a special connection with the wildlife they welcomed & shared their surroundings with. Always a story about “nature’s visitors”.
Being a “mater inventor” in his younger years he built a snowplane & fishing boat. Well into his 90’s he still created many ingenious inventions around the farm to help simplify their work & life.
Ever an avid fisherman, he took any opportunity to visit as many lakes as he could with trophy size catches. He continued to surprise neighbors & friends by participating on local sports teams well into his later years.
A farmer by blood, after he hung up his own combine keys, Dad continued to follow the “boys” during harvest to make sure he continued to be part of the operation. Whether being in the cab (or in his later years driving along side of them in his truck), he didn’t want to miss a minute & continued to “supervise”. Even as a veteran farmer he remained intrigued with new farming practices.
Dad’s life changed when his beloved wife, Pearl, passed in 2022. He kept himself busy on the farm they built for as long as his health allowed.
He was of strong character. Those that knew the true man found his soft soul & kind heart. Due to his zest & love for life, Dad always had a story & loved to share with anyone who came to visit. He remained proud of the fact that he lived more than 96 years, with his independence & his lifetime of “wisdom”. We ask that you remember him & his stories with a smile!
Dad will be dearly missed by our entire family. At Dad’s request there will be no funeral. Thank you for your understanding.
We would like to express our sincere thanks to all of Dad’s caregivers during these past months. You provided the highest quality of care, dedication & love to our father. Memorial donations in memory of Dad can be made to Kinsmen Foundation / TeleMiracle, 2217C Hanselman Court, Saskatoon SK, S7L 6A8.
