Obituary
It is with the deepest sadness that we announce the death of Antonio (Tony) Ciraco on February 6, 2025 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada at the age of 70.
Tony began his life’s journey on May 1, 1954, in the small village of San Vito sullo Ionio, Calabria, Italy. He was born the fourth of five children to his parents Vito Ciraco and Elisabetta Macri. His first born sister Graziella passed away at a very young age.
Like many others, Tony embarked on his immigration adventure to Canada in the early 1970s in search of a better life. Having a background in auto mechanics, he began his career in Canada working on FIATs. His true passion, though, lay in sports cars, and for many, many years, he fulfilled that passion working at Lenny’s Garage on the likes of Ferraris, Lamborghinis, Alfa Romeos, Porsches, etc. From there he moved on to Toyota, where he continued to work on what he loved.
Outside of the world of mechanics, Tony had a massive green thumb. He always enjoyed planting a vegetable garden and loved sharing the literal fruits and vegetables of his labours with his friends and family.
Tony’s generosity knew no bounds. Whenever he visited his loved ones, as the Italian saying goes, “bussava con i piedi”, which means he would knock on the door with his feet, because his hands were always so full with food and thoughts for those he was visiting.
While Canada became his new home, his love for his homeland was always present. When he could, he took the opportunity to visit his parents and sister back home, and the tie to his roots was always strong. He often would tell stories of his adventures on the farm, or in the mountains, and enjoyed devouring figs and prickly pears whenever he visited during that season. Binging on those fruits seems to be a deep family trait.
Tony was always current on events and in true Calabrian style, enjoyed sharing his point of view. He was opinionated and proud. But he was also loving and fair. He was a wonderful brother, cousin, uncle, great uncle and an incredible friend and neighbor. He touched many hearts and lives. He was a man of faith and, while his illness was sudden and brief, he spent his last days making peace with his situation, trusting in the Lord, and connecting with as many of his loved ones as possible. His last days were an example to us of the power of faith and devotion, and a surrender to what our faith believes to be God’s will.
Tony is predeceased by his parents, Vito Ciraco (2014) and Elisabetta Macri (2014), as well as by his sisters Graziella (1946), Esterina (2006) and Marisa (2023).
Cherished brother to Francesco and Zio to Caterina (Armando), Alessandro and Emily (Dimitri). Adored great-uncle to Dante and Michael. Dedicated and loyal friend to many.
Antonio’s strong faith in the Lord gave those around him strength and courage. He leaves us with an abundance of cherished memories, and we will be forever inspired by his spirit, resilience, and kindness. He will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered by all.
