Obituary of Wayne Stagg
Joseph “Wayne” Stagg of Sus Corner, New Brunswick passed away on May 15, 2023, at the age of 72. He is survived by his loving wife, Judy (Rouse) Stagg. He was the son of the late John Stagg and Edith (Legacy) Stagg Bennett and stepson to the late Harold Bennett.
Wayne was known as the candy man to many children, and I guess he really was as he was so sweet to many. A loving, caring husband, father, coworker, friend, and neighbor kind of guy. He was always eager to help. If you needed a drive somewhere, something built, Christmas wreaths or woodworking done, he was your man. Christmas season always gave Wayne much joy, especially decorating inside and outside the house. He even won a decorating contest one year.
Wayne always enjoyed a good game of cards, doing puzzles and playing horseshoes at the Lepreau Horseshoe Tournaments He was a good sport and took great pleasure in playing sports or watching them on TV with his sidekick, Penny dog.
He had a passion for cars, especially his mustang. He was definitely a mustang enthusiast and greatly enjoyed attending car shows. Although he wasn’t able to swim anymore, Wayne could be found kayaking down the river or on a lake during the summer.
His working career varied doing a lot of different jobs including Dalfens Department store as assistant manager, crane operator and rig slinger at the Irving Dry Docks, taxi driver, newspaper delivery service and Walmart Associate. In later years, Wayne could be found volunteering at the Sus Sharing Club where he made long time friends. He was a very kind-hearted man and will be greatly missed.
Besides his wife, Judy, he is survived by his 3 sons, Rick (Sheri) Saint John, John (Kayla) Hampton and Ryan (Stephanie) Saint John, step-daughter, Michelle (CJ) Rowland Shearwater, Nova Scotia and their families; sisters: Marilyn (Don) Somers, Shirley O’Brien (Phillip Webb), and Carol Long; brother in laws, Rick Cogswell, Bill (Jan) Rouse, Craig Rouse and Eric (Danita) Rouse; sister-in law, Faye McKnight; mother of his children, Laurie Brehaut Christensen (Tom); Grandchildren: Julianne, Nick, Tyler, Rebecca, Ethan, Dustin, Hunter, Parker, Kaelyn, Bryanna, Brooke and Bayley. As well as great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, dear cousins, friends and neighbours.
In addition to his parents and stepfather, he was predeceased by siblings, Steven Stagg and Barbara Cogswell, grandson, Jacob Love, brother in laws – David Long and Donald 0’Brien.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the compassionate care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sus, (506-433-1176). A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church on May 20, 2023, at 11:00 am. There will be a time of fellowship with the family following the service.
Donations in memory of Wayne may be made to Bobby’s Hospice, Sus Sharing Club or a charity of the donor’s choice. Personal condolences to the family and donations may be made through wallacefuneralhome.com
