MACLEOD, Roderick Donald
Surrounded by a contingent of his fellow barber-shop quartet members and belting out a variety of their favorite songs, Roderick Donald Macleod, 82 passed onto the afterlife. The man affectionately known as Mr. GQ for his debonair good looks and expertly tailored dress downed one of his favorites; a “burnt” martini (shaken not stirred, of course) before crossing over to the next side. He did it his way!
Over his 82 years this very fashionable gentleman met and befriended many, many friends and travelled extensively; the world was his to see and enjoy. Along the way he developed a refined palate and enjoyed fine dining and rare Scotches. Rod was a very successful salesman; to quote him, he “sold anything with ink on it”. He was in the printing business and travelled Canada in doing so.
Rod joined the Gentlemen of Fortune (GoF) in 1993 and was a great contributor to the chorus for over 20 years. His fun-loving attitude was infectious and he could always be counted on to get the party going and keep it going into the wee hours. With his contacts in the printing business, he took on the job of producing professional chorus marketing and show advertising material.
As a member of the GoF golf group he again was the life of the party both on and off the course. He often said that you can tell a lot about someone by the way they behave on the golf course. In this respect he was the perfect gentleman during play, never showing any anger at a bad shot but just saying ‘that’s the way it is”. Always a wonderful raconteur/story teller!
Rod was the youngest of five brothers and he outlived them all. He was always up for shenanigans. Rod is survived by his sister, Mairi Luce (Al) and two daughters, Dawn (Scott) and Danielle (Tyler) and son Noah (Shawna), grandchildren, Ocean, Ellis, Miller, Shane, Jessica, Karlee, and Krista.
A celebration of Rod’s life will absolutely be announced once the warm weather returns. Stay tuned!
