Obituary of Minnie Verla Redick
It is with great sadness that we announce Minnie Verla Redick (nee Klatt) passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 28, 2023, at the age of 83.
Minnie was a devoted wife to her husband, Lloyd for almost 65 years. Together they raised two children, Sharon, and Clayton. She also cherished her six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Verla was born on December 11, 1939, on a farm in Senate, SK. On the farm as a child, she helped her Daddy care for the sheep and carried water daily in syrup cans to the bachelor neighbour. Her family moved to Maple Creek to be closer to schools for their seven children and a steady family income. At 16, Mom and her sister Hazel moved into their first apartment while working at the B.C. Café. Verla married Lloyd in 1958. They lived on the McDougald ranch for a while, but eventually moved to Regina for a consistent livelihood. They spent a few years in Saskatoon; however, Regina was home after that. Mom was an amazing gardener; her yard was her pride and joy.
In every home we lived, Mom always worked hard to have a beautiful and fruitful garden. In the summer, she would be in her garden daily, picking cucumbers that were just the right size for her pickles or raspberries for her family favourite raspberry fluff. You could always count on a cold glass of lemonade at any time on their deck. She loved to take “snaps”; Mom’s many photo albums were her treasures. Mom was a consistent lead in curling, and both a lane and lawn bowler. Once Clay went to high school, Mom worked in ladies wear until she retired. Her grandkids remember grama playing shuffleboard with them in her basement, “painting” the deck or the numerous toys she always had to play with. Mom would always want to be sure her grandkids had a teddy bear, she always had a trunk full of stuffies for them to play with. Mom spent many years attending to the various plants and serving in the kitchen in Knox Met Church. She enjoyed her many celebrations with her close friends. Mom never sat down and was always on the go. Over the past few years, when Dementia took her mind and her legs, we lost the Verla we knew. However, Mom’s love for singing hymns gave her peace, “Jesus loves me”, this she knew.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the caring and compassionate staff at College Park 2 Memory Unit.
If friends so desire, memorial donations may be made in Verla’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Society of Saskatchewan, purchase a small teddy bear and give it to a charity of your choice or Knox Met Church in Regina.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
