It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Matt surrounded at home by his family on June 2, 2023 at the age of 46 years.
He will be forever missed by his daughter Samantha, his parents Glenn and Nancy, and by his sisters Shannon (Scott), and Dawn (Rick).
Matt is survived by the love of his life Julie, by his nieces and nephews; Tessa, Alex, Zander, Kirsten, Kaitlin and by his best friends Rick Brant, Rene Madere and Ray Harris. Predeceased by his identical twin brother, Michael and his grandfather, Douglas.
Matt was raised and lived in Sherkston, ON. He was the 3rd generation operator of Cosby’s Septic & Excavating Ltd.
Matt was a strong and proud man, and maintained the position of lead designer, installer and equipment operator at Cosby’s until his illness in May of 2022.
Matt had a tough childhood and adolescence alongside his twin brother Michael due to Epilepsy. Although, he never let that stand in his way and overcame many obstacles in his lifetime. He had a strong will to create a life he loved, and that’s what he did.
In May of 2022 he was diagnosed with Septic Shock. Due to complications, he had lost his right leg, suffered 2 strokes and lost function in his upper body as well as a large impact on his quality of speech. He fought a hard and brave fight to overcome the complications, but ultimately decided to end his life medically at home surrounded by loved ones.
His favourite pastimes included kayaking, hiking, fishing, camping, quadding and cooking on his meat smoker.
Matt’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. His smile and laughter brought sunshine to the darkest of days, and his soul was filled with golden light. The loss of his presence has brought immeasurable heartache to those closest to him, and those who had the blessing of knowing him. He will be missed and loved forever, and is reunited with his twin, Michael.
The Cosby family will receive friends at the ARMSTRONG FUNERAL HOME CHAPEL, 179 Clarence Street, Port Colborne on Tuesday June 6, 2023 from 2 – 4 & 6 – 8 p.m. A Celebration of his life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday June 7, 2023 in the Armstrong Chapel with a private family burial to follow at Maple Lawn Cemetery, Wainfleet.
