ROSS, Lydia Bernice – 93, It is with great sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of our Aunt Lydia Bernice Ross on August 5, 2023 at Roseway Hospital at the age of 93. She lived her entire life on Cape Sable Island. When she was no longer able to live in her home in North East Point, she moved to the Cape View Seniors Boarding home in Clark’s Harbour. Born in 1929, she was the seventh child of Angus Sr and Hildred (Newell) Goodwin. Aunt Lydia was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Aunt Lydia was a hard worker her whole life, devoting herself to helping others. Although she had no children of her own, she was always willing to help her siblings with their children and quickly became a very favorite aunt. She was a lifetime member of the Stoney Island Baptist Church, attending regularly until the last few years. She had a strong faith in her Lord and continued to read her bible daily. Aunt Lydia enjoyed making quilts and giving them away, but she was best known for her potholders. She made thousands of them during her lifetime and gave them to everyone she met. She also belonged to several quilting clubs. Aunt Lydia was a great cook and prided herself on her biscuits. She enjoyed playing dominoes and doing jig saw puzzles. She is survived by many nieces and nephews who will miss her dearly. Besides her parents she was predeceased by first husband Norman Ross and second husband Victor Ross, brothers, Robertson, Herbert, twins Clarence and Clinton, Angus Jr, and sisters, Elizabeth, Blanche, Edith and Mildred. There will be a graveside service held on Thursday, August 10, 2023 at 11 am at the Centerville Cemetery, Centreville, with Rev. Shaun Hatfield officiating.
