With great sadness, we are sharing the passing of our dad, John David Lambert. John died in the morning of Thursday February 16, 2023, at Whitehorse General Hospital. John had a sudden heart attack and passed away shortly after.
John was born on April 30, 1953, in Malton, Ontario to parents Jack and Esther Lambert, whom he will now be reunited with. John leaves behind his 3 children Matthew (Lori), Andrea (Adam) and Michelle (Rick). He also leaves behind 7 grandchildren Matson (13) Breton (10) Aubree (9) McKinley (8) Aurora (6) Carson (3) and Callahan (1). He was a brother to Lynda, Wendy, Beth, Leah, Jim, and Peter.
Those who knew John, knew he was a simple man with an adventurous spirit. He had a contagious sense of humour that he paired with witty one-liners and sayings. He was one with nature and had an appreciation for all the beauty Mother Nature offered. He had a way of noticing the smallest details in nature that told the story of the forest and natural world. John was a master lumberjack for many decades and business owner of Lambert Logging. John sought solitude in the forest and regularly searched for rare fungi, trees, and diamond willow. He had a passion for Robert Service poetry and reading all about the Great Far North. John was put on “The Spell of the Yukon” in his youth but moved to the Yukon in 2007 after years of being called to its beauty. He fell in love with “The freshness, the freedom, the farness” and found his home. He fell logs and built a log home which was surrounded by white spruce trees, pine, and purple fireweed, and set perfectly to the backsplash of the beautiful mountains of Kluane National Park. John was a loving father, grandfather, brother, and a friend to all that knew him. He will forever be remembered as “King of the Forest” and for his witty sense of humour that drew so many people to love him deeply.
“If I don’t see you in the future, I’ll see you in the pasture”.
In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Yukon Wildlife Preserve would be appreciated. Johns’ children will be having a celebration of his life at his home on Bear Berry Lane in Haines Junction on Saturday February 25, 2023. Please drop in anytime between 2:00pm and 4:00pm.
