Jean Desjardins
December 22, 1935 – July 9, 2023
The family of Margaret “Jean” Desjardins (nee Kerr) is very saddened to announce her passing on July 9, 2023, in Rosthern, Saskatchewan. Jean Desjardins was born on December 22, 1935, on a farm southeast of Melfort, Saskatchewan to Richard and May Kerr. Jean grew up on a farm near Carrot River, Saskatchewan with her 3 sisters and one brother. She attended all her school years in Carrot River. Upon finishing school, she left the farm and moved to Prince Albert, Saskatchewan where she got a job working at the Sanatorium.
This is where she caught the eye of Edward (Eddie) Desjardins. This led to their marriage in October 1956. Their first child, Penny, was born in 1958, followed by Wayne in 1962, and Nichole in 1973. The family lived in Prince Albert until 1963, when they relocated for Eddie’s work to Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. In the autumn of 1965, they moved to Rosthern, Saskatchewan. Jean worked at various jobs which included the medical clinic, the dental office, doing bookwork for Ed’s Plumbing & Heating, in the local flower shop, and at the photography studio.
Jean enjoyed playing softball along with other sports. She was a very avid curler and enjoyed many evenings spent at the local curling rink as well as at out of town bonspiels.
She also loved to spend evenings playing board games and card games with family or friends. Jean also loved to be in the kitchen baking goodies. Her true passion was horses. She loved to attend live horse racing as well as watch them on TV. And always, it was the highlight of her day, whenever she could spend time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Jean is survived by her three children: Penny Martens (Galen Toy), Wayne (Pattie) Desjardins, Nichole Desjardins; four grandchildren: Mandy (Dean) Heidt, Corey (Jen) Martens, Janelle (Tyson) Skoro, Justin (Emily) Desjardins; nine great-grandchildren; three sisters: Ruby, Kathy (Fred) and Sharon; companion Harold Heinbigner; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Jean was predeceased by a baby girl, born and died May 7, 1969; husband Eddie 1981; parents Richard Kerr 1985, May Kerr 2003; son-in-law Greg Martens 2012; brother Bill Kerr 2019.
Jean will be fondly remembered for her feisty, fun-loving nature. She is leaving behind so many memories and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Interment of ashes will take place at Prince Albert Memorial Gardens.
